Greetings all, last Saturday I test rode and purchased a new red 2019 Speed Twin. This is my 8th motorcycle and 2nd new one, my first being a new 1995 Honda Magna Deluxe. Been riding since 16 years of age, now 52, but consider myself to have barely an intermediate level of skill on two wheels. I have a small list of questions perhaps this smallish group may answer:
1) Is the break in sticker on my fuel tank important to follow and why? There are many opinions but I trust engineers the most.
2) Does the ECU (brain) record speed, rpm, etc. that can be downloaded by mechanics at the dealership, info that may allow Triumph to deny a warranty claim?
3) Does anyone offer for sale an attractive and functional sissy bar? I want one to keep the wife or kids from falling off the back of the bike.
4) Is it important I let the dealer do the 600 mile check, etc.? I am comfortable with changing oil, setting valve clearance, torqueing fasteners, etc.
5) is the displayed fuel economy fairly accurate?
6) Does Triumph offer a service manual for sale?
7) Is there a proper tool for changing rear shock preload? I used a bicycle spanner but it seemed suboptimum for the job, may scratch exhaust and rim.
8) Is there any acceleration performance data like 0-60 mph or quarter mile times? Just curious how the ST compares to other bikes, like my magna 750.
I could go on but that is a good start. I have about 150 miles as of this morning and I'm stoked to ride to work. My wife made be buy the bike because I could barely sleep for a couple of days before I bought her. Like a love sick school boy after seeing a really hot chick but waiting for the right time to ask her out.

Dave, welcome to TT from the Sunshine State and congrats on a fine looking bike! I suggest that you start a thread in the Speed Twin section. You will probably get a better response there. I will try to answer a couple of the questions here.

1. I generally follow the factory recommended break in procedures on new bikes.
2. I relly do not know what info the ECU stores; but I have never heard of the scenario you mentioned happening.
4. I change my own oil and filter and then take my bike to the dealer for it's first (600 mile) service. The tech will go over the bike looking for anythingthat might be amiss and update the map if an ypdate is available.
5. The displayed fuel economy on my Tiger is accurate. BUT, I am old school and do not rely on it or the fuel gauge. I reset the trip meter every time a fill up and compute my own fuel mileage.

Enjoy that new ride! TUP

I did not realize I was in error, could a moderator move this to the Speed Twin forum? Or has it been already moved? I show this thread in the Speed Twin section. And I finally read the owner's handbook today which answered a few questions. I think the only pressing question I have is finding a back rest to keep my kids from falling off the back of the bike in case I hit too much throttle.

I would let the dealer do the first service myself, for warranty purposes.
I changed my own oil on my first service as the dealer could not get me in for almost 3 weeks and I wasn't going to not ride my new bike for that long. I kept all receipts and documented the work as well.

I know that Corbin makes a seat with a "Lady Back" back rest. A little pricey, but I hear it's a comfortable seat and I've had my eye on it too. I'm from Canada so the price gets much higher for me with the exchange.
