I have the luggage rack, but not the grab handles.
girlfriend says she never holds on to them anyway.
not to mention they are heavy as crap.

As far as I know, the rack has always been on the bike, and I'm pretty sure if the original owner had them, they are lost by now.

Maybe if I can find a pair on ebay i'll pick some up. IMO, it does not look bad without them, but its obvious something went there.
( just ran some rubber washers and black hex bolts to help fill in the area )

Should be getting the pipes in today, super excited, but we are expecting rain from this afternoon to all day tomorrow, so looks like I won't be able to take the bike out to play until Sunday.

Cool!!

Have you ever had the stock pipes off before? I recall that the stock can were cemented to the pipes where the clamp goes with some type of exhaust cement that made them next to impossible to get off. It literally took my hours to get them off without destroying anything.

yes, I can actually throw some info at you for a change, ( well, this is what i was told anyway )its just a super strong sealant that EU bikes have to pass their stricter emissions and sound levels for motorcycles. You will find similar sealants on other 90's-mid 00's euro bikes, I'm not 100% sure that its required on the newer fuel injected bikes now that they have cats and such. (and i'm sure the rules have changed as well ) at the shop I worked at for a bit, we would occasionally run into something where they were stuck, and usually ( dangerous ) they would just squirt some petrolium based fluid on them ( ligher fluid, etc ) and let it sit, and it will eat up the sealant pretty good, then just slide them off.

Assuming that they fit ( which they should ) it won't take me any longer than 15 mins to swap them out.
( as often as I pull the pipes I've never bothered to worry about exhaust sealant as long as its not a giant leak causing you to run lean )

And i've had them off plenty of times before.( chaning the tires twice, lowering the bike, changing brake pads )

so lucky me, a shot of wd-40 and they just pop right off.

I did try several things if I recall correctly starting with Liquid Wrench and then eventually even trying brake and carb cleaner sprays, but nothing seemed to eat that cement away!

I'm happy to hear you won't have that problem and am really hoping you enjoy those magnificent stainless steel cans!

i'm very excited, and if i'm lucky, and they come in by the time I get home, I may get a chance to make a quick ride with them before the rain comes later tonight.

I'm really hoping for a performance gain around the 4-5k rpm area, thats crusing about 80mph for me, ( which the toll road near me post a 85mph speed limit :P so for a few bucks you can have a good few miles of open highway to stretch your vehicles legs, its usually open as the tolls are expensive, and I've never seen any LEO's patrolling them) either that i'll look into a larger front sprocket, i like its set up now for city riding, but on a long trip i would prefer to ride 80mph at around 4k rpm instead of 5k ( but don't want to be rev'ing up like a ninja 250 to get rolling from a red light )

EDIT: wa-hoo! package just came in, so as soon as I get home and put them on I'll have a few hours before the rain is expected to come in. ( but I have to say the Michlen Pilot Pro's i have on the bike are really good rain tires considering they are a softer compound performance sportbike tires )

I'm really hoping that these pipes will help cars be a bit more aware of me, today I had another really close call, and i'm really defensive rider, and I don't really blame cars too much, as i know we are hard to see, but anything that can help tell cars that i'm here.

Another thing i'm excited about the weight savings, UPS claimed its 15lbs for 2 cans ( plus packageing ) so they should be feathers compared to the stock system.

Have fun with those new cans

remember tho, that by the time another motorist actually hears you ,you are either on them or past them.
thats the trouble with the sound going out the back.:y6:

I am dying to hear what you think about the look of those Staintunes first of all....that they are as nice as I represented them to you.

The sound is actually secondary to me as I have no control over that and I'm pretty sure you'll like the throatier exhaust note.

sorry, okay

first off major thank you to seeker, he gave me an amazing deal, and shipped it well packed and arrived in perfect shape, and another thanks for all the info he provides to me and i'm sure others have been saved by him.

It took about 15mins to swap the pipes, bolt on just like the stock, and I was amazed how lighter they were compared to stock, I would guess probably weigh 2/3's as much as stock if not less.
they look amazing, and the build quality on them seemed top notch. They fit just fine, very snug, but the center stand bumper was off, Probably just a mis-calculation by the manufacturer, So i'll probably figure out a way to add a larger rubber bumper or something so I don't scratch and ding the cans. (possibly just wrap the center stand in a rubber hose or something )

So, i fired the bike up and it sounded absolutely amazing, remided me of a v8 rumble, very cool. ( baffles removed ) You can still hear the sewing machine sound of the motor, but behind the bike sounds amazing.

so naturally, I strapped on my helmet, and took off, I really like them, they are not too loud, and it seems they only roar under acceleration, but when holding your speed, its just a low grumble, so long trips would not get annoying due to sound, and no need for ear plugs. It very much reminds me of a Honda RC51, very V-twin-ish rumble, not like any of the high pitched i4 sportbikes. deffinately different, but in a really good way. the best part is rolling off the throttle, and hearing the back pressure build up and hear it rumble its way down.

Performance seemed about the same, which is good I suppose, some exhaust systems can really take out your bottom end. I do hear a bit of popping in the cans, but usually that happens when there is too much fuel in the mix and the extra oxygen in the exhaust cans causes it to combust? ( or am i wrong? ) I figure once I dial in the A/F mix it will run a bit better ( and i know my bike has had previous carb work, but i've no idea what all was done when the K&N air filter was added, they possibly could have added too much fuel? )

But i'm super happy, and cant wait to go out riding again ( huge storm is headed here this weekend )

and ofc, pics.

Fantastic!!!

The quality of Staintunes is excellent.

I also had a mis-alignment with the sidestand buffer on my'96 so.......who knows what was going on there.

The buffer really isn't needed as the sidestand will stop on it's own so as long as it doesn't smack the pipe you're OK.

I'm really happy you are pleased with them and I thank you for taking them off my hands. I had almost forgotten I had them sitting around. Good to know they have a good home now. :)

PS: that little pop is just part of having a more open exhaust I think. I like it! You can't mistake a Brit engine's sound for a Jap's....they are just plain cooler

Good news, I got all my money back from bikescreens.com, so thats good, paypal went in my favor, but I did get an email from the company saying that he will never sell anything to me again and how each item is custom made and how much money this cost him and some other ranting.

but I really don't care, as I never plan to order from him again anyway.

but in a few days, i should have my money back, unless he does not have enough to cover it, then in that case, his account is frozen until he can pay me.

That was the screen that was like warped or something? If so....that was a faulty piece of crap and he ought to be apologizing to life in general for being such an ass.

LOL. :what:
