Well, finally did it. My S.U.V. was literally eating my lunch in fuel consumption. SO I found a similar mileage one of these and traded out the gas guzzler.
I hope she is as reliable as all the Subaru owners say they are. I know it only takes 32.00 and change to fill it up the other was approaching 100.00 to fill up....being a cheap bastard going to the gas station= very cranky, now not so much.:y2:

That looks like a Subaru Forester of which I am the proud owner of a 2008.
These are a very reliable vehicle with a good rep.
The AWD cuts into mileage a little bit, but mileage will be well above what you traded in I'm sure.
I bought mine new and love it.

I was averaging 14 mpg in My Isuzu Ascender (which is just a re-badged GMC Envoy) I tried to sell it outright, but as Isuzu is an "orphaned" brand in the U.S. no one bit, at all, even below KBB pricing I got not only no takers, but no lookers!!!!! THis deal worked out well. I only paid roughly (give or take a couple bucks) for mine what he was asking for his. Fellow needed something bigger to haul a very heavy trailer, I needed to downsize...swapped titles and keys....everyone happy all round :y2:

I actually looked at a CHERRY 80'5 Model Datsun 280 Z, only 90,000 original miles. ANd an 86 Subaru Brat (remember those) but it had 308,000 miles so I thought better of it.

We don't have snow.....but we do have lots of rain, mud, and sand.

The Isuzu was just big and chunky, with the kids all grown and gone, and no need to tow 7,000lbs of anything anymore it was just cumbersome driving the thing around I mean do I really NEED 300 hp to go to WalMart?????? No. And the Subaru is closer to a "basic" model vehicle. I have been threatening for years to get a 1970 model truck with no power anything, no computer, no 14 different sensors just for emissions management and all the electronic "wizardry" of more modern cars that you can't even work on without a PHD in engineering and 150,000.00 worth of "tools".

The little boxer engine is right peppy and rather (for a modern car) easy to work on it would seem. And the whole thing is just more sensible---I mean a set of 4 new tires for the Fozzie cost the exact same as 1 new tire for the Isuzu.........I am a cheap bastard remember.........:y15:
I didn't have to have the AWD version, it just worked out that way. And even WITH AWD the mileage is still WAAAAAY better.
Plus it has the roof rack to hang the tassels on :y2:

The AWD sure does.
We recently got rid of our Mitsubishi Outlander AWD and almost purchased a Subaru Impreza, the AWD was one reason we didn't.
We ended up with a 2.0 ltr diesel VW Golf and even with a new tight motor around town it's giving 38 Miles to the Imperial Gallon. Don't know how that relates to US gallons. I think big cars are on the way out.

I agree Otherwise. Unless it is for some work, farm, construction situation, I think the average folks here are now leaning towards smaller. The first question is always....what kinda mileage does it get....and I see many many smaller new cars on the road. The Fiat 500 is being very well received and it is TINY. You still have diehards that aren't gonna give up the huge 4x4 DIesel Dually ......and they don't even live on a farm.....but mostly a downsizing trend is on. When I called to change my insurance info, the lady said I was the 3rd person she talked to today that was "downsizing".
Explains why NO INTEREST was shown in buying my previous vehicle. 14 mpg......and thats combined, driving it like a baby carriage! And after a tune up throttle body cleaning everything.....
On the other hand my first estimate on the Fozzie is about 20 round town only, haven't gotten out on the highway yet. So I will Happily take that increase.....to the bank.....:y2:

Congrats on the Subaru, a good choice. We have had three Subarus in the family and all of them were exceptionally good. I did all of the work on them myself. If I were going to purchase and automobile (not likely), I would look very seriously at a Subaru.

I am one of the die hards who will keep my diesel dually. I will be living on a ranch, though; and I have a fifth wheel camper to tow. Mostly I ride two wheels and the dually sits. It is a 4X4 and I occasionally need that extra pull.

Thanks Carl. And you are totally NOT the Dually driver I was in reference to. You NEED the abbilities of that size vehicle. I was mostly in reference to the younger "bucks" who have the biggest jacked up giant "gumbo mudder" wheeled vehicle they can just to salve the ego.....but they never tow haul or do any work with it. Last thing they hauled was an ice chest and the newest video game they bought. :y2:

I just filled our VW TDI Golf, it keeps getting better as it's getting a few miles up.
7.0 ltr / 100 km or
40.354436 miles / imperial gall.
Sorry to rub it in but I'm stoked!
:y2:

:y24::y24: To funny Carl. You could buy one and haul it around in the back of the truck as back up if you run outta gas.

Otherwise, don't mind a bit Good on Ya for that kinda mileage. The VW's are cool. 40 mpg would be good. WHat year is it?
I am still stoked with my Fozzie so rub in all you want :y2:

It's a 2011 2.0ltr diesel turbo with a 6 speed auto. We now have 2,200 km on the clock and each time I check the economy it keeps getting better.
I just checked, one Imperial gallon = 1.20095 US gallons so in US gallons we are doing some what better than 40 mpg.
I've got a 2005 5.7 ltr V8 Pontiac GTO that I love but haven't driven for weeks now because the VW is so much fun and so economical.

The Golf.
