In my experience , batteries don’t like to be tendered for long periods. Most winters I have six batteries to be kept up and just one tender . I put the tender on each of them for a day or so , a weeks job , and repeat every 6 or 8 weeks . Newer smaller units will be flashing as full in less than a minute and I might leave it connected for an hour . At the the other end of the scale my Camaro was built in June 09 and might take 30 minutes to achieve full charge , I’ll leave it on overnight . Yes It’s the original battery .
The 16 Thruxton has an AGM type I believe , It lays pretty flat . Will see how it works this summer , it hasn’t been out for 2 years , original battery also .

When the OE battery on my Ducati gave up the ghost after 9 years, always on the Optimate, I took the opportunity to rearrange things under the tank for a larger battery. I fitted a quality AGM battery with 50% greater amp/hour capacity and again it is always on the Optimate when in the garage. That was in 2010 and it's still giving sterling service.

Two lessons to be learned from this. You generally get what you pay for and a quality battery tender like an Optimate will pay dividends because they do what it says on the tin.

Whilst it may be very tempting to go the Life PO4 route when looking for a new battery I would only do so if they were OE specified. Purely because if they aren't the electrical infrastructure on your machine may not be up to handling the current these things can deliver.
 
Lithium Ion batts are a solid benefit on my Salt Flat Racer...then again NO lighting Ignition Only. My '70 T120R daily runner is on AGM. I test the charging system to make sure it is up to spec.
