Hey guys,

I purchased a new 2018 Street Twin about nine months ago. I got the bike a few days late because the dealer told me they had to clean the injectors. When I got the bike, it seemed to run okay at first, but after a few days I noticed poor gas mileage and the RPMs would seem to drop pretty low every now and then. The dealer took the bike back, saying there was a bad spark plug. After I got the bike back the second time, I have since noticed what sounds like misfiring. I also get quite a lot of decel popping as well. Unfortunately I made the mistake of doing the initial service myself and didn't realize this would void the warranty, which seems absurd. I'm going to put a call into the dealership tomorrow, but I'm not sure if they will be of any help. Has anyone had any luck with an issue like this? Am I out of luck with the warranty? Any help is appreciated, thanks guys.

By doing the first service yourself - changing the oil and filter - does NOT void the warranty. That is federal law. Now, if you mesed with the mapping, that could be a different story. I think the shop is trying to duck responsibility.

If the bike was new why would the dealer have to clean the injectors, and then a short while later claim it has a bad spark plug? Sounds like there's a lot more going on than they claim. Also like Carls said, changing oil on the first service will not void warranty as long as you kept receipts. They also hook bike up to computer during first service to check for any faults or codes in ECU, so maybe that's why they're denying warranty, claiming it could have been sorted out then.
How much mileage on your bike now and what was mileage when you took it back to them for fueling problem?
Also have you checked the recall section to see it there is any recalls that may apply to your bike?

Really appreciate the replies. To clarify a bit: I haven't yet heard the warranty is voided. I just read on the Triumph website that if it's not maintained at the service intervals by a certified center the warranty is voided. The only mechanical mods I have done are slash cut tips and wrapped exhausts. The bike had 40mi on it when it was delivered. I had driven it about another 40 miles before I called them the second time. It now has 1300 miles on it. I thought it was an ECU issue that would adjust automatically, but that hasn't been the case. The sputtering is pretty slight, noticeable only if you have your helmet off. The initial so-called injector issue and continuing problems make me think something is wrong with the bike that they are not telling me. I am about to call the dealer now and will update with what they tell me.

Also where bike sat around for a year or so before you bought(based on year of bike and when you purchased), May have a lot of condensation in the tank. Do you use the 87 Octane, which may contain ethanol or the high test(93) which may not have it. Try Seafoam, which is a great upper engine cleaner and helps to get rid of condensation in the fuel tank. Should be able to pick that up and any auto parts store.

I'll give the Seafoam a shot. I use 87 octane usually and 93 whenever I'm at a gas station that has it.
