Patronising pish.

I wear next to no protection and have survived for the best part of 30 years on a bike (covering considerably more miles than most) without so much more than a small scar on my left knee incurred 27 years ago.

If people wish to wear Dunlopman-style suits then fair play to them...but please don't tell me how to live my life. I'm intelligent enough to make my own decisions. :)

back in the eighties i used to wear next to nothing to ! just a leather jacket and jeans , and rode all year round .
but a few slides on ice and some quit sever gravel rash later ,i decided that good gear was far less painfull !

I sorta agree with you about making your own call rather than compulsion.
Regardless of your skill, considering the idiots who crash into innocent riders, I think you've been lucky. 30 years of above average miles and one small flesh wound to the knee, that's good going.

BTW, I had to look up "pish".
"Variation of piss, most usually used in the north (particularly Scotland)."
"Used to express annoyance, impatience, or disgust."

Yeah when I saw my gear after a get off it confirmed that it was a great idea to always wear it, I just hate the road rash and pain BGRIN

Glad you did otherwise I would have to had to look it up :y2:

Good gear saved my bacon three years ago. I am a confirmed ATGATT rider and was before my get off. However, I am dead set against compulsory helmet laws and seat belt laws for adults. I agree that adults should be able to make their own choices. I ride 8,000 to 10,000 miles a year. And on the street, I have had three get offs in 53 years of riding.

I noticed the dude in the video was not even wearing gloves! He paid the price for not wearing the proper protective gear. Riders are compelled to wear protective gear on the track and most walk away from get offs because of that gear. Public roads are MUCH more dangerous than a track.

As indicated in an earlier post I am inclined to go for free choice but another side of the argument is ...

We in Australia have free hospital and medical treatment. Those who are injured and not attempting to minimize personal damage by using ATGATT are possibly stealing from the system particularly with long term treatment. Food for thought.

When I was young (and stupid) I only wore a helmet.
One off, when a car did a no indicator turn into me, changed my mind.
My clothing melted into my arms, dislocated finger, and my spine managed to stop me against a curb.
Jeans never even tore, but I had to pull them out of the hole the footpeg made underneath my kneecap.

...

I don't think THIS guy is a big fan of ATGATT:

Jacob Southard beats the heat in St. Louis in a “mankini.”

Now THAT should be illegal!!

If it's not illegal, it really should be! Even if it's just a crime against common sense and good taste!

Carl is always saying that he cannot ride a bike with a fairing in Florida.

So now that he's got a Tiger with a RADIATOR and PARTIAL FAIRING, I fully expect Carl to get a mankini too.

Just make sure you use Sun Block Carl!!
