I know at least one was from a falling tree.
That's a shame and probably could have been prevented unless that person was an emergency worker (for example) and risking their life for the sake of others.
We lost an EMT during Hurricane Juan who was responding to an emergency during the storm and a tree fell on the ambulance.
Emergency responders are fantastic people.

Well, unless a tree falls on your house and kills you.

The hurricane spawned tornadoes far from the center and if I'm not wrong, some of those deaths were attributed to that.

You're right of course. I was only thinking of a person being outside in the storm.
If a tree was big enough it could fall through a house.
I wasn't aware there were tornado conditions.
It's getting on to 2:30 PM and still relatively quiet here. A little rain from time to time and only a light breeze so far.

The surfer up in Flagler County who died apparently got hit in the head by his surfboard or something else in the water.

Hurricanes invariably spawn tornadoes. That is what I fear most from a hurricane. We went through four hurricanes in 2004. Altogether, I have been through 11. I have had my quota.

Irene is fading off in the distance. She didn't have much effect here. Only some tree branches down and power off in some parts of the city this morning.
We had very little rain here, but more to the west closer to the storm. Winds gusted to 90 kph (50 mph).
Overall, we got off pretty easy.

Rocky, I am glad to hear that you dodged the bullet. TUP
Yeah, it was almost a non-issue here in the center of the province and to the east.
To the west end of the province closer to the storm, and northwest In New Brunswick and Quebec, they got hammered pretty hard with winds and torential rains.
18,000 lost power in our province and I was surprised to hear that, but no flooding or deaths and things are quickly getting back to normal.
It's a beautiful sunny day here and I just came in from painting window trim and iron railings.
Never ending fix-ups when you own properties :y8: :y13: :y15:

On the opposite end of the spectrum, as much as i absolutely love my Tbird, i'm now a bit sorry i bought it because i may now not have enough $ to afford that house i've been looking for. Dave, at least you have a home, and while the bike is great a home is the greatest thing you can own.

Well I hope you can still swing it that you can also get a house and you are right owning your own home is a great investment. You do need to do a lot of upkeep to keep it in good shape but then you can have it just the way you want it. Today it is 12 years ago that we moved into our house. I owned an apartment before this and boy looking at how that building has gone to the dogs now I am glad I don't stay there any more :y7:
