T100 Bonneville Black
Hi all, I am looking at making a hinge arrangement for my seat or am I the only one who wished Triumph had this on all the Bonneville models? Has anyone else made this mod? I have seen one on the net however it looked abut rough and was quite expensive in price not including shipping to Australia. Any information would be appreciated and I will keep you informed of my progress. Thanks Greg

No, you're not the only one who wished the seat would flip up like the old Triumph seats do.
I don't think this has ever been discussed here and I don't know of anyone who has done it or of any such arrangement that might be commercially available.
But that's just me. I haven't seen or heard of everything :y2:

The bells are ringing waaay back in my head, I've come across this in another place but can't recall where.
I'll search the other forum that it may have been and post again if I find it.

Thanks for the reply I have seen some info on other site however it was a commercial company making them and they looked extremely rough in construction so are looking for snother option.

If you can let me know of anyone who has done this mod otherwise I will post what I come up with when I design my brackets which I want to make to attach to bike and seat using existing mounting locations.

Thank you all for your input.

This is lifted from "newbonnevilleriders".

Quote, "Farley and Ace did that for us in the form of this seat hinge kit. The kit works really well after you figure out where all the pieces go. The fitment was easy but the paint used could be better. I am going to pull the pieces and powdercoat them so they will look and wear better. I installed a seat stop cable on my seat to take the strain off the hinge when the seat is in the open position. This works well and looks Retro too."

Thanks, Kevin. Really good information.

Greg, you are certainly not the only one that has wished for this. I have want one since I bought the bike in 04.

I dont know how much of a bother the bonnie seat is to remove, but the speedmaster seat can be off in 30 secs and the america two piece in a minute.
As the bonnie is a one piece seat, why did they not use the same system.?

That the best description and information I have seen on this mod thanks so much. The price was something like $200 Us plus shipping to Australia which was like another us $60 which makes it quite costly so I thought I would make my own. I could not have the closing latch off the shock bolt as I need access to that for my rack system for my luggage have a look at my pics in profile. My Bonnie in 10mins becomes a tourer with Kappa side and top cases ha ha. Thank you again for the great info and post I will let you know how I go making it and if easy enough maybe I can make a few up for you blokes as well. I can powder coat them at my work which will make them look pretty also ha ha!

Not sure why but those two bolts at the back of the seat to retain it are a pain to get too especially with the rack on. I am debating if too remove the air box and replace with DNA pod filters and then make a storage area and sort the electrics or keep the air box and just modify it for better breathing with ram tubes. I have investigated a lot of posts and the web and it appears performance is very close in breathing capabilities with the new Breathe bellmouth inlet for the air box and pods

I will let you know how I go and keep you posted does not look too complicated to me to make and I can powder coat at work so may be a very cost effective mod and certainly a pleasing mod! Yes the two bolts are a cheap nasty way of retaining the seat and bloody frustrating too ha ha!

The Bonnie's seat is a PITA to remove. The stock screws are Allen screws and unless the light is good, it is hard to see them up under the seat and harder still to get them back in. I bought extended bolts for mine that the you can turn by hand. The heads come out just under the rear edge of the seat.

It seems to have sped up now. It took me 3.5 minutes to post that photo of the seat bolts.

Yeah, I've been running into that too; mostly very slow; some improvement, but mostly slow and double posts.
I bought extended seat bolts too with Allen heads. I use a small ratchet wrench to remove and install them.

But this post actually went pretty fast!!

I like your seat bolts. Where did you get them from and how much?

I bought these seat bolts (bullet bolts) 4-5 years ago from Jenks Bolts in the UK. They're solid stainless steel.
I haven't looked at the web site in years so don't know if they still have them or not.
I don't remember the price.
