Hurricane Kyle clipped the western end of Nova Scotia as a cat 1 hurricane. Once it made landfall and swung up the cold and deep Bay of Fundy it quickly degraded.
It was well away from Halifax but we still got some rain and quite a bit of wind.
No major damage in the city but I lost power for about ten hours. The leaves on the trees make great sails so many branches came down.
Other than that we escaped pretty easily.

Very happy to hear that you did not have too much difficulty with Kyle. But, the loss of power for 10 hours was certainly a pain in the butt, I am sure. But, considering what other possibilities you had, I guess we can all be thankful.

Glad to know you are OK. Thanks for keeping us up to date.

Rocky, thanks for letting us know you came through OK. I'm relieved that you had no damage. A cat 1 hurricane that far north; wow! We were without power for about 15 hours just with a tropical storm. The ground got saturated from all the rain and tress went down taking power lines with them. That is why I have a generator. But I guess I need one a little more frequently than you.

We were a little surprised that Kyle kept the cat 1 status until it got here.
Down at the western end of the provice 40 thousand were without power and many still are.
But overall we faired pretty well with no major damage.
In my case the power was out during the night until 10:00 AM so I was asleep during most of it.
Five years ago this morning after Juan passed through our city looked like a war zone. Not so today. Everything is back to normal.
I've given thought to a generator, but this happens so infrequently that I keep putting it off.
Since Juan five years ago the only storms of any consequence were Hannah and Kyle.
But if things start to become serious every year a generator may be in my future.

When I lived on the preserve, no power meant no water. So the generator gave us water, refrigerator, house lights, TV, computer and the bedroom ac. We had to turn the ac off to use the microwave or the hot water heater. When we lost power, it was usually for two or more days to a week. We were without power for a total of 17 days in 2004. I was very happy that we had invested in the generator!
