A couple of BMW rider friends of mine think they are the greatest thing since I don't know what. They even re-use the same beads when they buy new tires. I never tried them because I thought they may not work as well in tubed tires (Beamer buddies are all tubeless).

Dazco was considering them if I remember correctly. But I don't think he ever tried them. I was also concerned about the tubed tires vs tubeless tires. Another consideration for me was the several miles of unpaved road I used to ride - mostly in first gear. I wondered what the effect of unbalanced tires in losses sand would be. Thus I chickened out on trying them.

Apparently the internal wear is insignificant compared to the outside wear. And once you are at speed, the beads don't move - centrifugal force holds them in place.

They seem to be pretty nifty, but the standard way has been pretty reliable for a long time. I balance my own if I have time. On the plus side, wouldn't have the weights to clean around. Also wouldn't run the risk of losing a wheel weight. I've always carried a can of Fix-a-Flat on road trips, don't expect the beads would work with that stuff.
