Chain adjustment/alignment

I have a 22 T120 Black (my first Triumph). I have figured out the special wrench thing for a simple chain adjustment (why o why Triumph ?) Question...there are no marks to tell you if you are in alignment. Any tricks out there other than the motion pro alignment tool ? I do not understand the concept of no alignment marks. I also have to take the rear wheel off due a tire change, the exhaust looks cool, working around it is not !

The motion pro tool is a good device. Offset wrenches allow adjustment without removing the exhaust.

Thanks, I do have the motion pro, still no fun removing the chain guard to do chain adjust/alignment. Looking at different exhaust to simplify what should be a easy roadside type procedure. I had BMW's for years so I am used to either a shaft or easy to access axle nuts (for the chain drives) and visible alignment marks. Every make has is quirks. I also have offset wrenches and one I modified myself.

I match the distance between the bolt head and the locking nut on either side. Forget the marks.
Some fellows count the number of threads on the bolt in that same space. My eyes won't do that, so I use a metal scale.
There's an alignment checking gadget I have, and according to it, this technique works pretty well.

Yep, I was trying that out today with a simple plastic caliper. Looks like the easiest way to do it. But still..as a new Triumph owner the exhaust cans are definitely form over function. Thanks for the info.

That was the adjusting bolt head to the locking nut..right ?

That's what I do. Does not matter what spot you measure from just do it the same on both sides. I dislike chains, my Rocket has shaft but the wife's Speedmaster is chain. I wish Triumph would go the a belt.

Google Laser Chain Alignment Tool. Profi Cat makes one of the most expensive, but there are plenty across the price range.

Is there an aftermarket can that allows access but also works accommodating a center stand ? Not sure if speed twin exhaust would work. (I'm not in love with the peashooter)

When you remove an exhaust can there is a wire type mesh fabric around the pipe. Should that be replaced ? What is the purpose of it ?

Yep, British Customs makes cans that allow for a double stand. Reasonably priced too.

Back in the day centerstands we standard equipment.
There was no freight charge or dealer set up. It was MSRP plus tax, or even less.

Now it is a very expensive accessory. A lot of tasks require them...like checking oil level via sight glass, chain slack/adjust. These tasks used to be easy.

Well, it works at home in the garage...not so good on the road.
I often go on trips that are 5k miles (or more), maintenance at the side of the road or outside your hotel room with a beer is important !
