Hi All - I've haven't yet had the opportunity to start up and ride my 1200 XRX which arrived on November 30th. As my garage is nowhere near any mains supply, I will need to remove the battery and bring it indoors to connect to my Optimate charger. but the dealer has told me that removing the battery will 'light the engine management light'.

Advice needed please - thanks in advance. David

Removing the battery will definitrly reset the CPU. I did not know this would trigger the check engine light. I have not seen that happen before. One has to remove the battery to replace it or to put the bike in storage.

As Carl says, removing the battery will reset the electronics, and that has to be something Triumph factored in, because it will happen every time you replace the battery, if you own the bike for more than a few years. I could be wrong, but I think I would not worry about it, and, when I put the battery back in, I would go through the same process as if I was resetting the ECU: Start the bike, let it warm up for 20 minutes and go through 2-3 cycles of the radiator fan, then shut it down for a couple of minutes, then restart and go.
This should all be in your owners manual, in my opinion.

Disconnected mine and stored in my basement, so I guess I'll face the same issue possibly in the spring as well. Like others stated, Triumph should have allowed for this when designing the ECU software and should not be an issue, methinks.
My last bike('14 Triumph T'bird) had this winter treatment done every year and never triggered a MIL. If it does trigger a 'light', it will probably reset after 3 starts and runs, provided there are no other issues.

I replaced my 1200 Tigers battery a short while ago .It did bring the check engine light on .BUT it went out after a few start ups that was also confirmed to me by a Triumph mechanic .Bike has been fine since .Seems the bike sees the low voltage and detects problem .Took about 20 or so start ups before mine went out .
