Re: Air eliminator kit and How to re 790 and 860 twins.

Your picture tells it all. Is that silver thing the airbox or solenoid. .

The silver thing is the vacuam operated solenoid as fitted to carbed bikes.I cant be sure on the injected models if the solenoid is any different but I imagine it would be the same.
The airbox is directly under your seat.

Also I need some info about tuning and maps. I do have a diagnostic scanner for my car which I tried on the bike and it worked but only to tell me RPM and all that other info. Had no fault codes and don't expect to get them as I guess the solenoid is still doing its thing but doing nothing if you know what I mean.

So Richard, I presumed untill checking, that as your bike is a 2008 that it was still carb'd, as over here the 08 came with the new tank yet efi didnt arrive till 09.
In short, my experience with efi is zero apart from a short ride on Sketchy's bike so I can offer no advice.Sorry.

No it is fuel injected definitely. What can you tell me about mapping. Can I upload maps myself and what do I need to buy,or should I go to a mechanic. I would rather be able to do this sort of thing myself as that is a lot of the pleasure of biking. As far as I can see your picture looks the same as mine so it must be a solenoid. Maybe someone else can verify that. I know EFI started in 2009, but obviously not here as my plate says 06/08.

Yup, it is def. the solonoid Richard.
As for maping ecu's, I'm sorry cobber,I know nowt, but I'm sure there are others here who will jump in.

check out tune ECU, if you can download the software , its free as are a few maps, you can make your own if you really know what you are doing!!! maps are for sale from TTP, picked on your current modifications, many have raved about them!!

Hi I have the 2011 EFI Bonneville and have undertaken the removal of AI and remapped my bike.

The software to remap is free you just need to purchase the cable which I purchased from TTP as I had purchased a cable earlier from eBay which did not work.

May I suggest you modify the bike as follows

Remove the restrictor plate and inlet snorkel in the air box.

Install a DNA filter and the TTP Breathe intake cover wide opening inlet plate.

Remove the AI and install the AI eliminator kit,

Remove the Oxygen sensors and install and Oxygen sensor eliminating kit,

Mufflers or pipes must be replaced to get the free flowing and sound for performance.

Purchase online and download the EFI map to suit the above modifications and what type of mufflers you have long or short from TTP and the cable to suit.

You will find the bike performs so much better from idle to full throttle

You can download maps from the internet free however I found the TTP maps are well sorted and would highly recommend you go down this path unless you the knowledge, experience and air fuel ratio gauge a dyno or plenty of time to run road fuel mixture / ignition timing test runs.

All the best with you bike it is so much fun modifying and improving them.

thanks for the detailed info! upon purchase i joined several triumph forums to learn what is best for me and bonnie, i completed several performance upgrades since purchasing new in 2012, exhaust first + easy the 304 stainless predators are tops, blocked the air tube + gutted the air box thru the filter opening, removed snorkel and added a cheaper e-bay alum bellmouth with Forchetto's AIT relocate, K+N filter, scootworks belt drive + bitubo WME shocks, DS003 seat + anniversary grab rail, K+S DOT turn signals, maund taillight kit, replaced pee cup + added rizoma mirrors, also sporty pirelli rubber. got the oxygen sensor blockoff kit + download cable but waiting as warranty is not quite done. also installed the triumph tacho kit, heres a pic of th e AIT relocate from Forchetto a very intelligent and helpful triumph guy!!!

He Carl, Forchetto writes excellent articles on modifications to Bonnevilles. I will relocate my AT sensor soon as I have received a open circuit fault warning light a few times in which when I clear it on the ECU it seems to occur again over sometime. I have cleaned the contact pins connector and wonder if it was mounted at the intake opening if that may also allow a more richer mixture due to the cooler location which should result in better performance overall
and may stop the issue With the fault

I will give it a try to see.

a little insight on the relocation, after tracing the wiring you can unwrap the IAT sensor wire to get it to the other side, no cutting necessary. then rewrap the wiring accordingly. can't say if it richens things, but you would think it gives an honest reading, bike runs well with no codes a year after, just the snatchy throttle!
