Lol I thought it could not be the African Dog, I think anyone that is not scared of the Hyena must be nuts

A friend of mine worked on contract with South African Telecom. He and two others were driven to a remote substation by a local driver who sat in the open car while they went in to do some work. They heard a lot of noise an ran out to find the driver had his arm almost ripped off by Hyenas. The Hyenas ran away and they managed to save his arm but it was a real mess.

Yeah nothing messes with those guys

:y13::y13::y13: That's horrific! See, now I'm going to start believing all the urban legends. When I was a kid, my brother-in-law really scared me. We were in the Kruger Park collecting snares that the local set for any type of animal that wondered into it. After dinner he told us kids to wash our faces with LifeBouy soap to get the smell of meat off our faces and hands - if we didn't, the hyenas would come and rip our faces off while we were sleeping! What kind of a nightmare does that give a kid! But to this day, I don't go camping without LifeBouy soap and it still smells disgusting!

I can't swear to the truth of it but I did hear a story of an orphaned, unweaned baby hyena being put with a litter of pups. It it fed and trived and grew up thinking it was a Labrador. It got bathed with the rest of them and lived on dog food so it didn't smell like a hyena either.
Like I said, could be just another urban legend.

I did find this very neat A tame hyena in a bath?
