munkybarz,

Just realized I've seen you recently over at other forum. Thanx for adding to the section over here; it's been slow, now we have your project and my client's lower end. That'll perk the place up for a while.

What's your goal with this chopper? Restoration to original, resto-mod, chopper restoration, or something else?

GP,

I'm going with the bare bones bobber deal on this one. Pulling off a dead accurate restoration just isn't in the cards for this Old Girl, there's just not enough left to warrant that. A mismatched 1967 DU 4#### frame/1969 T120R engine combo isn't a good thing to throw a lot of time and $ at. How's that for a period front end, oh yeah! This bike came complete with a valid Ontario registration, totally legit, that's a very good start, the transfer to my name was a cakewalk.

Question; As I said it's a T120R motor (BC5####). Okay, wasn't the vent-through-the-primary supposed to have started in the 1970 model year? Why I ask is that yes, this one has the crank vent through the primary. No breather disc and spring at the D end of the intake cam, no D side crank seal, three holes through the left case at 4 O'clock under the stator and the vent stub at the upper rear of the inner primary. Huh? I looked very closely at the number boss where the model and serial have been stamped and it has never been messed with or altered. The stamped letters/numbers are all original. There must have been a mid 1969 change to the venting?

The gearbox components were pristine, wow, I mean flawless. Lucky me. Oh, I've noticed an odd blend of UNC, UNF and CEI threadwells and bolts fasteners on this mill, more evidence of some kind of transition. Anyway, thanks for the welcome. I'll post when I can because my work schedule takes up a crazy amount of my time and it's tough to get a minute to even get on-line these days.

-Bill

I know, this bike is quite obviously not a Triumph, but hey, indulge me here. Actually this is the last resto I did on a 1960 FL I rescued in 2004, I'll find the 'before' pictures, you'll barf for sure when you see those.

Okay, I gotta go, it's wakey wakey time at 4:20 a.m. as always.

I still have it, I doubt I'll part with it any time soon. It's up on the balcony above the main counter at our local HD dealer. I just might get it down for the summer and put a few miles on it!

I've been busy lately and not spending much time here or following this thread.
But when I saw that rusty crank I nearly fell off my chair :y26:
I've never ever seen anything that bad before!
I'm not a Harley fan either, but that old girl is a beauty and, as an owner and a lover of vintage bikes, I would have one of those in a flash :y115: :y115:

grandpaul,

You're doing a 1968 T120R bottom end, See what you think of this question;

Question; My engine is a 1969 T120R (BC5####). Okay, wasn't the vent-through-the-primary supposed to have started in the 1970 model year? Let me know what you think about this one.

Thanks, -Bill
