Replaced the gear selector arm and upgraded the clutch plates. Everything went back together nicely. Upon starting the bike there is a fairly loud knocking noise. Took the bike apart again and did not find any metal shavings or anything that would indicate a problem. Put it back together and it still makes the knocking noise.

I will attach a video of what it sounds like. Gears are changing perfectly up and down now and the clutch feels great.

When the bike is off and in neutral I rolled it around and it doesn’t make any knocking noise. It’s only making the noise when the engine is running. Pulling the clutch in when the engine is running doesn’t change the noise at all. But when giving it throttle, the noise speeds up with the engine.

I did not have this noise before changing the gear selector.

I forgot to mention that the oil light is on constantly now even though we put around 3.6L of oil (a little over I know)

Years ago I was rebuilding the engine on a Yamaha XS1100 and the oil pump was driven off a gear at the back of the clutch basket. After getting all my parts in and getting it all torqued to spec took it for a ride and had a knock. Turned out the oil pump gear wasn't engaged, the drive gear on the clutch basket was pushed against it so it was a friction drive not a tooth driven pump. I found the issue after my oil pressure went to 0 because the oil pump drive gear exploded. That cost me a few shekels to make right again.

Lesson I learned, verify and validate every part is working according to the manual before buttoning up any motor.
