The old girl was finally put back together with new chain and spox plus new Brembo rear disc:

But when i ran the engine up, it all ran perfectly until it got upto temperature, then it started missing and coughing and would eventually just conk out.
So upon investigating i found that the injector vacuum hoses were all cracked and perished.
A quick call to Triumph once again had me laughing hysterically! 3 short rubber hoses = £68!!!
So i spent £10 and bought really good quality braided hoses from eBay and they work fine...
Unfortunately it didn't cure the misfire!

The hoses:

I had to admit defeat and go to a really good Triumph workshop in the end
( www.allbikespares.co.uk )
And with the help of the diagnostic machine and their expertise, we found that I'd shimmed it up wrong somehow! and ew had a tight inlet valve... that sorted and the old girl runs like a dream now!!
But (there's always a but!) i have now found the fork seals are leaking. I guess from being standing for 6 years they've just given up... So that's the next job and then........ back on the road at last!!

I'll keep you posted.
Cheers

Great followup posting and good pics. Sounds like some of my projects! :y2: Glad you have it all sorted and she is running properly. Let us know how it goes with the fork seals.

Hi Folks,
Just an update this time...
Work on the old Trumpet's slowed down a bit what with the onset of the winter coinciding with my workshop heater breaking down! SAD

But have done the fork seals.
Even that simple job wasn't without drama as the bottom yoke pinch bolts had corroded in place necessitating drilling our and heli-coiling!
but we got there in the end.
But (why is there always a but?!!) I've now noticed the headrace bearings are very notchy so i might as well replace them now while the front's in bits...
I'll hopefully have some photo's of a whole bike on here one of these days!
Cheers

Nice job.

I wouldn't fret about the pinch bolts as you probably know that heli coils are stronger than normal threads.

There are certain jobs that I do that specify heli coils to be used. These are normally high torqued fasteners.

Cheers Avion,
that does make me feel better.
i'm just annoyed with myself for:
A) Leaving them in dry
B) Leaving them in there so long they got corroded!
But the replacement stainless bolts have been greased so shouldn't have to repeat the excursive!

Hi Folks,
Sorry it's been a while...
Well at last the old girl's back on the road...
I've had a small oil leak from the cam-chain supporting bolt on the side of the cylinder head but otherwise all ok.

But done about 250 miles so far and all seems ok....
Lovely to hear that triple growl again, especially on a sunny day!

I'll try to get a Youtube film on here a soon as I remember to take the camera with me!

Hi All,
As promised here's a short video...
I know it's a bit lame and is a gentle ride but I didn't really want to thrash the bike straight out of the box!
Also, sorry for the poor sound (bike) quality but the mic on my helmet-cam seems to be giving up the ghost... Must be all that mud and water from the dirtbikes :-/
Anyhooo, here it is:
