After owning my bike for over 7 years, I'm getting close to 12,000 miles. I noted in the Owners Manual that a valve adjustment should be made at that point. Need some opinions. If the bike seems to run well, is that necessary? If so, what is the cost at a Triumph Dealer for the job?

Ronnie, since I do not have an enclosed garage, I take my bike to a shop for the valve check. When checking the valves, the bike must be cold. I make an appointment and get my bike there early. By early afternoon it has colled and they can make the check and add shims if necessary. It is not always necessary. I do recommend having the valves checked every 12,000 miles. My Bonnie is eight years old and I am almost ready to turn over 40,000 miles. Mae Lyne's bike is an '03 also and I just turned over 30,000 on it. I use an independent shop. The owner of the ship has three Triumphs himself. I do not remember the cost of adjusting valves.

This is probably a job for a pro since these bikes have the shim and bucket system. If they had simple valve adjusters I would do it myself.
The first bike I had after many years away from riding was an 1989 H***a V-twin that had simple valve adjusters.
I checked those faithfully over 70,000 kilometres and they never needed any adjustment.
It was a PITA job because the front cylinder had so little space around it, but at least I knew.

I adjusted my valves a week ago at 20000km and I needed to change 4 of them, 2 on the intake and 2 on the exhaust
I would not say it's easy but with the triumph manual and my Haynes manual it was not that hard and if you get stuck
there's allways this forum :)
