T120 Headlight Melting Issue

The headlight lens of my 2007 scrambler is fogging up on the inside. I suspect it's from temp. I am going to replace the bulb with LED to try and stop further damage.View attachment 55765

My Street Triple fogged up like that only not so badly. Turns out it was a film which had built up on the inside of the lens, I
used a lint free cloth secured to the bristle end of a long handle artist paint brush to clean it, might be worth a try. The problem didn't re-appear after it was cleaned.

Makes sense! Any oily film left on the inside of the lens is going to absorb heat and cause problems. If it is as simple to clean/remove as ManInTheJar suggests, it is worth trying.

Just a follow-up to my headlight melting issue. Received the replacement lens and reflector from the dealer, and found a very compatible H4 LED bulb on Amazon which has 360 degree illumination. Installed today and works perfectly. Super bright white light, and very little heat is produced. Problem solved.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try before installing the LED bulb. It's supposed to be here any day now after back order.

I am going to try this. Going to ask my artist wife for one of her brushes. Better yet, ask her to use it on my lens.

Thanks again for the tip. Just removed the light and you were correct, polished right out. The LED light came in today so I will still replace the halogen with LED. The added lumens with lower energy is deciding factor. I try to do daylight only but have been caught out in very black weather conditions in the past. Just added insurance. Another 'bright spot' is wife didn't catch me using her expensive art brushes to clear the lense.

Spoke to a dealer today, and they said that they have also seen this before. Halogen bulb gets very hot, snd in certain circumstances like idling for long periods of time in closed areas (like my garage) that the assembly can overheat, and melt the front lens. They recommended that I replace the stock Halogen bulb with a compatible LED bulb which will be much cooler and should eliminate th possibility of this happening again. This was a pretty expensive start up of my bike, LOL

Took the words out of my mouth - no cooling breeze if it's stationery in a garage.
