How long have you had the motorcycle? When did this issue start? Has the motorcycle been dropped on the shifter side?
20k miles, not dropped, happened yesterday on my ride back. think it is an adjustment or broken spring. manipulated the lever at home on stand and was able to work by hand the top 3 gears or bottom 3 gears.....won't go past that

Doesn’t sound good. Looks like you’ll need to open it up.

the lever isn't coming back into place automatically. I have to manually move lever up or down a little to get it to shift. Thinking ther eis a broken spring somewhere.

any ideas on where to find service manual online, ??

I had similar issues with my Tiger 800 . It down shifted poorly right from new and got worse . A few years later it stopped shifting down at all so had to open it up . Can’t recall exactly which part had worn so badly it malfunctioned but it’s related to the springy , forky thing alright . It worked like a dream after repair . It was as if someone had abused it on its first outing but I got brand spanking new , as they say .
I think I replaced the shaft but remember thinking it could have been bent back to it original shape and probably worked just fine .
