Hi there,

I bought my Bonneville T100 yesterday! was very excited.. It's the 865cc engine from 2006.
it rides very well and only has 2530 miles on the clock.

This morning on my garage floor, I found a bit of oil under the bike.. See pictures.
Hopefully, nothing too serious here? Fingers crossed! ;)
I look forward to hearing back from anyone with any ideas of how to fix this small leak.

All the best!
Yves

My guess is that it's a buildup of chain lube behind the chrome cover that has never been cleaned out.
When the engine gets hot the lube softens and starts to run.
Remove the chrome cover and take a look.

Thanks for your suggestion Rocky.
Hopefully nothing nasty then ;)
I'll have a look this afternoon.

I'm sure (hope) that's what it is, but in any event it's worth taking a look and clean it out while the cover is off. This is something I've had to do several times.
It's very messy in there, but take the time to clean it out. Any solvent or grease cutter will help clean up the runs and mess after you remove the heavy stuff.
The cover is over the high revving drive sprocket and it's quite easy to remove. No gasket to worry about. Torque the bolts to 9m (7 foot pounds).
If you don't have a torque wrench, tight is tight enough so don't overdo it.

That's very impressive.
As my T100 is my first Triumph (and my first proper bike for about 10 years..) i find it impressive coming here and being able to read your feedbacks straight away.
Thank you !

Anyway, I've taken the cover off and it was absolutely filthy. Thick greasy oil, wood debris, soil etc.
It took me a good 15 minutes to clean the inside of the cover and the area around the chain. All is well and clean now.
As Sikatri mentioned earlier, it's a lot easier to determine what is going on or not with a clean bike.
So, let's tick this one off ;-)

Best regards
Yves

Great to hear you had success TUP
That was what I suspected; dirt and debris from years of use had piled up in that confined area and begins to soften/melt from the heat of the engine.
If you ride a lot and lube the chain a lot, it's worth going in there every couple of years.
Enjoy the bike. I certainly enjoy mine.

Hi again everyone,
After doing a good cleaning to my bike, I realised that there's a oil stain under the right carb.
I'm wondering if it's coming from this long tube that comes from the back of the registration plate.. see pics. What is this for?
Kind regards to you all.
Yves

That's not a factory item.
It looks like some sort of chain oiler system......maybe?
That might explain why I found quite a bit of oil on the same side of the chain? It's hard to tell where it's coming from...
Thanks for the reply anyway. If anyone else knows what it could be, I'd appreciate your feedbacks.
Cheers
Yves

This picture is of a Scottoiler system, the reservoir or pump ( don’t know these systems) looks very similar to yours (the cap mainly) Not sure if these operate automatically or manually. If auto you may just need to adjust the flow.

Thanks for the info Philois. Yes it seems to be it! I've never seen one of these before !
I've reduced the flow to 1. I'll see if there's as much oil dripping in the next few days.
Best regards
Yves

I have never used one so I can’t really comment with any authority. That said they are supposed to extend chain life but I can only imagine they would be a bit messy. Some you have to turn the cap to administer a set amount of oil, you would do this every few hundred kilometres. The oil reservoir can be mounted on the handlebars so you can do this on the run. Plenty of videos and opinions on YouTube. Personally applying a bit of chain lube the old fashioned way isn’t that much of a chore for me.

I’m suspecting the old way is simpler in the end. LoL.
