Hi guys....just wondering if any of you guys are familiar with the modern water cooled Bonnies....mine is the 2020 900cc engine bike.

I gave the bike its first oil change last week...500mls....Triumph Filter and the correct grade of Castrol fully synthetic oil.

On starting the bike I noticed a light tapping sound from the engine....bit irregular....not exactly loud but I can hear it....

Its possible its always been there but dont remember hearing it before.

The first thing I though....the timing chain tensioner needs to reset after the oil being drained....so I took it for a short run....on getting home....it was only 3mls....the noise was gone....

But next cold start it was there again.

Its possible that it is the hyd timing chain tensioner....but you would not imagine it going slack after sitting over night.

How cold is cold? If I don't start my bike for a few days the tensioner for timing chain becomes a bit slack until the oil pressure fills it after start up and all quiet very briefly after that.

An update.

Noticed now....on start-up when the engine idle speed is higher say 1500rpm I dont hear the tapping sound....but after say 2 mins as the cold start idle rpm is starting to drop thats when I hear it.

after around 7mins of idling idling and as the RPM settles at 1000rpm the sound is more or less gone.

I am hoping something to do with the fuel injection sys....

Almost sounds like a valve the way you describe it now. Little noisy when cold but goes away once warmed up. Since it's new I would have it checked as others suggested. May need to be adjusted. Better to hear them tapping than being too tight.

But why nothing in the first 2 mins.....then I hear it for 2 maybe 3 mins.,...then its gone.
