Haha, not a bad hijack, could be off topic after all.... ;)

Well, here's the start of Version 1.0 dubbed : "Thank God for bondo" haha. Still have a lot to learn as far as aluminum welding goes with this TIG machine. Started playing around with the pulse functions and that helped quite a bit. I think it will look far better after I get some black paint on it. Fuel fittings should be here TUESDAY of next week. So I'll keep going on the rest of it for now. Got my front brake lever in the mail today, and my throttle cable. It's the little things now!

Thanks gents! I hope to get a few more hours into it today if the missus lets me :notworthy: My one year old gets to meet Santa for the first time today, so that should be a treat! haha

Don't do it . . . I made the mistake of letting my kids meet Santa and for some reason they wanted to have him visit once a year EVERY year. It's a scam, don't get caught up in it like we did.

Ha, too late! It went really well. Made my wife happy too, so all is good!

I knew there was a retaining screw....which I broke the aluminum mount to on the gas cap. Is it needed? No. But I could fix it later if I felt like it. For now, it's staying "broken" I pulled the tumbler out and used clear packaging tape to hold them into location. Now I can open the cap with a screwdriver :) At least until I decide on buying a key and having a new one cut or just breaking all of the tumblers since there's a low incidence of people taking your seats off and gas cap out. In my case, the ignition is destroyed so I'll make a hidden key and switch so they won't know where to mess with it in the first place!

On the next note: FUEL FITTINGS WILL BE HERE TODAY. On a second and happier note: MY WIFE GAVE ME THE NIGHT OFF TO WORK ON IT WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fuel fittings are IN! Trying to find where all of the sensors and stuff hook up. Next up was the airbox. I just took it off promptly when I picked the bike up since I was going to clean up the injectors. Well...it appears there were mice in there. They have loaded it up with fluff and nuts and mice poo.:mad: Not happy. Cleaned it out and 2 of them were mummified in there. Which brings me to my next question. The snorkels seem to be HUGE in there. They are 5-7 inches long maybe? Seems kind of odd that they are that length. Do these stick out, or do you push that snorkel all the way up there and only leave 2 inches out?

Looking at parts fiches to find where the connections go now...there's a couple that I don't seem to have parts for them to hook up...

And I hate to report that my wife worked late, and I had to leave extra early today. Oh well, plans change :/

I did quickly cobble it together (even though I know I shouldn't have...) and got some fuel in the tank. After turning the engine cut switch a few times, it appears that all of the injectors are working, and fuel is getting to the rail! The bad news is that the new metal parts are only 1/4" and that fuel line feels like 3/8" So I got some leaking out of the return line. On a side note...which line goes where? They weren't hooked up when I got the bike. Right now, return line is going in the BOTTOM spot, and the input line is going to the TOP of the female adapters in the tank itself.

But it DID fire up!!! (with a little throttle) it didn't want to idle for it's life, and that may be because the airbox is off, and I might be missing a barometric pressure sensor? There's 2/3 open plugs without anything in them. One has a plug that looks the same as the injector plugs. The other is a 2 prong "T shape" plug. And I think there might have been one or two more. Any thoughts on those?

OK. Great news! I put pipe thread tape on the end of the new metal parts and seems to have stopped the leaks! Next questions for you guys....

What do these connectors go to???? I've got a few misc ones under the tank that don't currently plug into anything. I found the barometric sensor (it's attached to the airbox) And I was able to fire the bike up and adjust the throttle linkage to keep it idling at 1K rpm! I'll try to upload a youtube video eventually here. But for now, I've got to fabricate some sort of exhaust pipe as I'm running just the down pipe on the header currently and that's a BIT loud. I also picked up new oil and 2 filters :) Any info on the circled connectors would be amazing. Thanks!!!!

Right ! ......the two peace T I think is for the power socket on the side of the frame for satnav etc ! The other two peace I think is spare and is for diagnostics and I think the four peace is for the fuel pump and fuel gauge , but it's a while since I've been under the tank of a tiger so memory a bit vague .

I've already got fuel pump (it's a white 2 prong connection) and fuel level gauge is there too. I was thinking the 4th fuel injector connector that isn't hooked up might be for a 4 cylinder model and is unused...but does Triumph even HAVE a 4 cylinder model? That 4 prong one seems like it might be diagnostic as well.

The satnav connection on my bike is broken. Only one prong is there...unless you only need the one for power and the frame grounds that plug..then in that case it would work fine :whistle2:

So the latest and greatest info: I have fuel, it fires up and idles as-is, but is of course loud and it leaks from the damn fuel level sensor. It's not coming out of the gasket surface but the epoxied wires so that's bad news. It's a small drip, but it's there so I will try my "go-to" fix for fuel leaks. Normally I would use radiator repair putty, but I have my Liquid electrical tape on me. This should work as it's been known to be quite gasoline resistant. I have this Vance and Hines exhaust laying around and the hanger on it fits perfectly in place on the Tiger! Now to fab up some exhaust pipes out of crappy galvanized stuff first (picked up this morning), then go back and make it out of stainless later...maybe

Teaser pic for ya on the exhaust!

Figured it out. Was searching for Triumph Sensors in google...and that 4 pin plug seems to go to the O2 sensor!
Found this link: Triumph Oxygen Sensor Eliminators

And this info at the "other" triumph site :)
TuneECU - Triumph Forum: Triumph Rat Motorcycle Forums

Not that I necessarily NEED to do it, but since I changed exhausts and have no current O2 sensor, I assume that will leave my engine light on forever unless I get the eliminator or an O2 setup which isn't too bad as I can just weld a bung into the exhaust I make later as needed.

Have any of you done the tuning of your bike or needed to?

yes thats what it is the o2 sensor !!!! i forgot about that ! just buy the blanking plug for the o2 sensor it just plugs on .
and there is a four cylinder from that era i had one ! the trophy 1200 and daytona 1200 and the street super four , so you could be right it could just be redundant .

Killer! Yep O2 blanking plug eh? Do they sell them in the states? I think I could just make my own, since they are just resistors after all. I saw some info on 330ohm used...doing some more research now!

She doesn't like to idle low, and I think that's due to the O2 sensor issue. Every where else in the range she felt like there wasn't an issue. Can't wait to get a little test ride on the beast. Boy does that engine like to scream up there huh? My Aprilia is super jealous :y145: as it sits in the back with a flat tire that I got on the last ride of the season :(

Exhaust was rough and dirty, but I've got an idea of what I'll need to do when I get my hands on some 2" stainless tubing. Wanted to thank you guys for all of your help so far again.:Salute2:

That sounds brilliant, you've done a great job to date, a darn sight better than I'd do. This will be a real treat to see this to its completion, and to your first ride. Don't forget your camera, if you can fix it to your bike that is ?.

:five:

I've got a GoPro...I'll have to get that back from my brother, then it will be easy to hook it up to the bike! Synchronized the throttle bodies last night too. Complete pain in the butt since you have to balance the tank somewhere. I suppose if I had an auxiliary tank with the correct fittings it would be easier, but I'm on a budget! :y48:

Here's updated pics of what was leaking on the bike (fuel sensor) and the fix worked perfectly, still no leaks this morning when I came in. And the pics of the synchronizing. 2 is non adjustable so 1/3 were off!

I'll keep going on the "bodywork" and such and add things as I go along to keep you updated. I still can't wait to get out and see how she compares to the Ape. Totally different machines so it should be interesting.
