as I have always said our weather is mostly good my side but we do have problems with heavy winds around this time of the year. So last night the wind started up and has really been blowing since then.

It has now taken down one of the heavy cranes in our harbour.

Wow, that's pretty shocking! That must have been one heck of a crash!
Those cranes are very sturdy and I'm surprised that the wind could take one down.
Poor maintenance; high wind; both?

Our waterfront has many of those massive container cranes and they easily survived hurricane Juan.

Looks like a stunning area for a day out.
Four of us were on a 10 day ride through the island province of Newfoundland. Beautifully rugged there.
You can only get there by plane or ferry.
It was too far to jump our bikes so we took the ferry BGRIN

This is the 12.9 km bridge to another island province. I've been over it by bike several times. When the wind is too high they ban slab-sided vehicles. The days I crossed were very calm.

Wow that sure is a stunning setup with that bridge
Yes, it's quite a feat of engineering. Before 1999 you could only get over by plane or ferry.
There is still a ferry service on the other end of the island so sometimes we would go over on the ferry and home by bridge - and vice versa.
One of our club members has a cottage on the island and we would go over every year and spend the weekend, but he left the club and I haven't been over by bike since 2004.
