wind noise

hi,
im am relatively new to the world of bigger motorcycles having recently passed the test and treated myself to tiger 800xc.
having only clocked around 300 miles so far, I'm a bit concerned about the amount of wind noise I get above and around 40+mph.
at first I was blaming the helmet, but have since been made aware of something called tiger roar?
can this be cured with a windscreen change?

Hi there welcom to TT ..... there are a lot of aftermarket taller touring screens for the tiger 800 which should cure your problem , there are a lot of owners here who im sure will be along and should be able to point you in the right direction for one to suit you .

You probabaly do need a taller windscreen. However, a naked bike at speed is noisy. Some helmets are noisier than others. Some windscreens are noisier than others. Your height vs your windscreen's makes a difference. What I am trying to say is there is no magic solution. What works for you may not work for me and vice versa. I have Triumph's tall screen on my 800XC. I get some buffeting and wind noise; but I can live with it.

I kinda thought that would be the case. I am 6,1 so probably will try a taller screen at some point.

You would definitely need a taller screen since you are 6'1". I an 5"11"

You might consider foam ear protection. I resisted doing anything about wind and other vehicle tire noise for years. I eventually started to ask "what" a lot in meetings. Now I wear hearing aids. A windshield, a good quiet helmet , and reacting to the discomfort of noise with hearing protection might help your comfort and your ears last longer.

haha, I feel your pain. I've been wearing hearing aids
for some years already. my left ear is the only fully functioning one so this is probably why the noise is loudest on the left?..I am using ear plugs but it is really excruciating above 60+ almost like a vibration so gonna try a few helmets to see if that's the problem..?

Yes it sucks that we can have a hard time hearing many things, but that wind noise is in a range that we seem to really hear well!!

Looking at your avatar pic looks like you could use a taller windscreen. Type and make of helmet will make a big difference as well on these bikes. Been reading a lot of reviews on helmets myself lately and from what I've read Schuberth are the quietest but not well ventilated. Arai seem to be the best at most, and a popular choice, although not the cheapest, by any means. Only you can decide that.
