Today has been an 'interesting' day to say the least!
After 2 days of heavy rain the county is just about flooded everywhere. I had appointments to meet builders in Frizington, I never made it, I tried every route I knew and all of them were flooded!
I did actually make it to one appointment in Carlisle but getting anywhere was horrendous, because the rain was accompanied by gale force winds.
The forecast is for more torrential rain for the next 48hrs so I think I might get a boat!
Here are some pics from around the region. (I did not take them, they were on the local news)
The first 2 are Cockermouth town centre.

we in JHB are also having a lot of rain and floods at the moment!!!! its supposed to be summer here and its not even 10" outside.... feels like winter all over again, been raining all week here....

Its really bad!!!!

Those who believe in this 'global warming' stuff should step outside here,it's about 10 deg........ it's mid summer dammit!

I just saw some of the news footage of the floods and it's beyond dreadful. Water is so damaging that you may as well have had your house burn down.
As for the temperatures, here in the frozen north called Canada, it's 15C (59F) and sunny. We've been having this heatwave for about three weeks now. 7-8C or less is more normal for this time of year.
But it won't last of course. One of these days............

Just back on line!
About half an hour after I posted this thread on thursday the broadband went dead. The telephone exchange at the bottom of our village was underwater!
We are very fortunate as we live on top of a hill, we have only had the inconvenience of flooded roads, power cuts and no internet access. There are lots of people who have been really hit hard.
It is really sad about PC Bill Barker, he was standing on a bridge in Workington stopping people from driving over it, when it completely collapsed under him.
It was a really substantial structure, built of hundreds of tons of stone. He never stood a chance. Just shows how weak we are compared to the power of nature. He was a keen biker who gave riding lessons in his spare time. He was 45, and leaves a wife and 4 children.
My thoughts go to his wife and children.

We heard about the loss of PC Bill Barker over here. An obviously fine man doing his duty only to be lost to the raging waters.
Very sad indeed! My thoughts also are for his family.

Wow thats a lot of rain!! Been watching it on BBCW.
Our town of Boksburg has also had it's floods this past week. Half of Boksburg was closed on Wednesday and it took us about 2 hours to get home, which is only 12kms from work. Been freezing as hell as well. The average temperature for this time of the year should be 26 but we have been having 9's and 10's. On Friday I went to work in long johns and vest!!
Hubby is a waterpolo player and the season should be in full swing now. On Saturday the game was called off because the water was only 15 degrees. Thats unheard of for the end of November.

Very strange weather we are having this side as well. We desperately need rain we are now having water restrictions imposed. Very sad to read about PC Bill Barke these types of accidents are always a shock to all involved.
