Warhorse: Triumph Scrambler 900 “Bucéfalo”

Triumph Scrambler 900 Custom

Tamarit Motorcycles builds a gentleman’s warhorse…

Bucéfalo
— aka Bucephalus (“ox-headed”) — was the legendary warhorse of Alexander the Great, and one of the most famous horses of antiquity. Said to be bred from the “best Thessalian strain,” he was named after the brand of an ox-head stamped on his haunch, and the very name itself has come to describe especially spirited horses.

So “Bucéfalo” seems an especially appropriate name for this Triumph Scrambler 900 custom from Spain’s Tamarit Motorcycles, who’ve become masters of the air-cooled Triumph “neoclassic” engines, as manufactured up until 2016:

“No one has created so many motorcycles with the same Bonneville engine, with more than 125 unique motorcycles presented on our website and about 50 that we have not presented.”

Over those many years and builds, the Tamarit name has become all but synonymous with well modified, highly appointed Triumph customs, and we’re always excited to showcase another one of their builds.

Bucéfalo is actually the workshop’s 114th build, and it’s one of our favorites. The concept was something of a “gentleman’s scrambler,” with bold yet classic lines, plenty of chrome, bespoke paint, updated electronics and accessories, and the ability to tackle a variety of terrain. It’s a bike that Steve McQueen might ride to a film premiere — only to jump some curbs, blast some back alleys, and rip some unpaved shortcuts on the ride home.

Highlights include the bespoke front mask, two-piece custom saddle, chrome-plated exhaust with custom heat shields, British racing green paint, motogadget electronics suite, and a whole arsenal of Tamarit accessories, including sump guard, fork yokes, fenders, and more.

Depending on the motor vehicle regulations in your home country or jurisdiction, getting a custom motorcycle fully inspected, approved, and registered for the road can be a headache. One thing that sets Tamarit apart is that they work with their clients to ensure each build meets the necessary guidelines for its destination country, and they help undertake any modifications necessary to get them fully homologated — now that’s service!

Below, the Tamarit team gives us the full details on their 114th build, “Bucéfalo.”

Bucéfalo Scrambler: In the Builder’s Words

Triumph Scrambler 900 Custom

Engine:

Our added value is our specialization in Triumph neoclassic engines, this has made us the world’s largest specialist in these engines. No one has created so many motorcycles with the same Bonneville engine, with more than 125 unique motorcycles presented on our website and about 50 that we have not presented.

Triumph Scrambler 900 Custom

Our main value is the specialization and know-how we have acquired with each project. The 114 Bucéfalo bike hides a carbureted Scrambler 900 engine and, although Scrambler bikes are intended for less conventional terrain, this bike is also perfect for city riding, where it will get everyone’s eyes in its path.

Paint:

Bucéfalo stands out for its classic off-road styling, combining chrome with knobby tires. As for the paint, this is not a first idea, but this bike was first painted in blue but the team did not quite like the design, so a new aesthetic was redesigned.

The final result opted for a British racing green — a traditional color of British racing cars. The green color was combined with white on the tank, front, and side covers. Both colors are separated by a thin line in gold.

Exhaust:

The new sound of the 114 bike is the result of a new custom-made high exhaust with a perforated heat shield. The exhaust has been fully chrome plated, along with the rest of the metal parts of the bike.

Saddle:

Unusually, Bucéfalo has an exclusive seat split in two, upholstered in leather. A risky bet for being delicate material and difficult to work, but that has given the bike a masterful touch, which fits well with the gentlemanly aesthetic.

Wheels / Tires:

To fit this project, new TKC80 tires have been added and the rims have been chromed, together with the rest of the metal parts, for a more resistant finish and greater aesthetic value.

With these new wheels come oversized lugs on the rear tire, and a balanced grip is achieved both off-road and on. These new wheels are ideal for all types of terrain, from daily road use to the toughest trails.

Custom Parts:

In Bucéfalo you can see a custom front end, which we only make for a very few projects, and that together with the Ruby side covers are the parts that have been customized with the same paint design of the tank. In addition, on the side covers you can also see the plate that shows the name and number of the project.

  • Hummer sump guard
  • Gold chain and chain cover
  • Pegaso fender
  • Chrome Tamarit triple trees
  • Speedometer support
  • Handlebars
  • Motogadget Mini speedometer
  • Custom rear fender with eliminator kit.

Electronics:

We have included one of our must-haves, the Motogadget Tiny speedometer. It is also worth mentioning the incorporation of other Motogadget components, such as the turn signals ond the control unit.

Triumph Scrambler 900 Custom

From Tamarit we are always looking for the best optimization of our motorcycles and the electronci control units work as the brain of the motorcycles, so in our projects we include the Motogadget m-Unit, the most complete on the market. Thanks to its functions and the app, the bike can be fully monitored through your Smartphone.

Chrome plating:

In this project a chrome plating process has been carried out on almost all the metal parts of the motorcycle. It is a chemical process that leaves the parts of our motorcycles shining like a mirror. Chroming, nickel plating, or brass plating a part takes hundreds of hours of manual labor and craftsmanship. This process differentiates us and positions us as a premium motorcycle brand.

Homologation:

Our projects are tailor-made for each of our clients and then approved by engineers to comply with the basic standards that allow passing vehicle inspection.

Triumph Scrambler 900 Custom

After finishing the transformation of the motorcycle, if the reform requires it, our engineers carry out the homologation of a technical project by which the motorcycle is allowed to circulate freely with the modifications made.
