[Its a no contest! the speedtwin wins on any count except price!. I think however that the direct comparison is the STREET TWIN. ----a totally different contest. BUT even then , unless you are really nipped up on price the street twin ( the new one anyway) has what we all seem to crave ---and that is the ability to light our passion. The the testers at RIDE seemed to underestimate this. Yes the enfield is good enough to provide retro sensations -----but we all want that bit more --the power to thrill quite literally and the enfield fails on this front

I don't think this is a fair comparison as these models are so far apart on almost every item.
The RE is very nice, but the ST is so far ahead.

A nice bike but empty wallet, so no fun. Or a slightly less impressive bike and a couple grand in your pocket to spend? Easy choice for me!
But realistically, the MOST cost effective option is to buy used. You can buy a lot of nice stuff for $2500- $4000 or so

you are right of course, we all know what we would like ---but the reality is what we can afford. There are a lot of really nice second hand bikes out there and owned mostly by people like us they tend to be pampered , often low mileage and very desirable. The older street twin is a bit closer to the enfield as it was only good for around 50hp-----still more than the enfield but much closer------just wait for two years and a nice updated street twin could be had for same or less than a new enfield.-----and its a much better bike all round even used.---it will keep its value as well.
