Jim is having some serious back surgery tomorrow. It will be an extensive surgery with a long recovery period. Back surgery is not without risks and Jim is feeling some apprehension which is quite natural. I spoke with him last night and will call him again tonight. Please keep Jim in your thoughts and prayers. I will keep y'all updated.

I spoke with Jim earlier tonight. He has to at the hospital at 0515. He is really apprehensive. He will be in the hospital for about a week. He has stenosis of the spine. Without the surgery, he faces the prospect of being wheelchair bound. One of the risks of the surgery is being wheelchair bound. I certainly understand his worry.

My late wife, Mae Lyne who was a member of TT, suffered the same. She got to the point where she could no longer ride two wheels. I installed a sidecar on her bike and that gave her three more years of riding before her untimely passing. I am painfully familiar with what Jim is gping through.

I told him you all were rooting for him. I will update when I hear frim him or his wife tomorrow.

Just spoke with Sandy, Jim's wife. The nurse called her about 30 minutes ago and said things were going well. The nurse told Sandy the doc would call her just as soon as he fininshed. Jim has been in surgery over 12 hours!

Update. I spoke with Jim's son-in-law. Jim came thtough the surgery fine, He is heavily medicated. It is too early to tell the success of the surgery; but the surgery went well with no complications. Maybe in a couple of days I will be able to talk with him by phine. It will be a long recovery period with lots of physical therapy.

I will post more as I learn more.

I just got another call from Jim's son-in-law. Jim has a large blood clot in his lung and is now listed in critical condition. I do not know what measures they are taking; but they said he might not make it.

I just got off the phone with one of Jim's daughters who is an MD. The surgery went longer than was anticipated - 13 hours. Because of the long surgery, Jim developed a blood clot in his leg that moved to his lung. Jim was on a respirator sfter the surgery and the respirator went crazy because it could not get enough oxygen to Jim. That was their clue that he had a blood clot. They did a CAT scan to confirm it and found remnants of the clot in his leg. His heart is under stress because it is trying to pump blood past the clot.

The options are to let the clot dissolve or go in and remove the clot. Either option has its own risks. He has been moved to a different hospital that has the specialists and the equipment to go in and remove the clot. The decision has not yet been made. Jim is strong and a fighter; so far he is holding his own. But he is very critical and his daughter did not want me to get my hopes up too high.

Both she and her mother are holding up pretty well. Jim's other daughter lives here in Florida.
