The US motorsports channel SPEED is showing a tour of the Triumph factory on the program "Speedmakers".
The Thunderbird is featured from what I have learned.
It's on here Friday at 10:00 AM and probably repeated many times so surf your local TV schedule for times and dates.

I just watched it. It was on at 9:00 AM here.

Very good program watching everything that goes into building a Triumph and a couple minutes of stuff about the fire in 2002.

I was not aware that Triumph still hand paints the pin stripes, that there are only two guys who inspect every bike, and one guy that rides every single one of them on rollers.

I just watched the program too and was very impressed by how clean the factory is; the skill of the workers; the technology and how fast they work.
It was centered around the Thunderbird, but other bikes were being worked on too. The line workers have a very intense job and only a short ime to perform their tasks.
Dazco is going to love this show if he hasn't already seen it.
I knew the lining (pin stripping) was done by hand. My gas tank is signed by "Neil" at the base of the tank under the nose of the seat out of sight. The next time you remove your seat look for a signature.
The voice-over guy made a few slips, but it didn't detract from the program. He probably just read what he was given.
Example: Marlon Brand didn't ride a Bonneville in "The Wild One" - he rode a Thunderbird:y2:

I guess I just got another rep? Thanks.

Carl, the program is well worth seeing. I'm sure it will be repeated many times.
It shows every step in assembly. 5 1/2 hours from a bare frame to a completed bike.

Yes, you did get repped. That tip earned it. TUP It is not repeated today on the Speed channel. I will look through tomorrows listings.

I will have to check and see if I can maybe find it on YouTube BGRIN

Dave, if you find, please post the link.

I also found it interesting that every employee on the production line knows each other's jobs so that when there is a problem, it doesn't hold up the line.

They showed a guy not being able to get a cam chain on and how he found the problem quickly and it got corrected.

They also build all the bikes on the same line, so every line employee has to know how to do that job on all the models.

I saw the last 1/2 and it was good. But i didn't see any repeats any time soon to catch the 1st 1/2, tho someone at the Tbird forum said it's on in the morning i think saturday. or maybe it was today, in any case i will try and find it. Cable repeats every show 50,000,000 times so i'm sure I'll have the chance to see it enough times to begin hating triumph. :y2:

yeah the narrator screwed up a few times in the 1/2 hour i saw calling the speed triple the "triple speed" and cited the Tbird as weighing 900 Lbs !

Yeah, tho i really wanted to see it again so i could see the first 1/2. But wouldn't you know it....all the regular shows i watch on discovery, travel channel, etc, repeat themselves add nausium and if you want to see a show again wait a day and there it is. I just checked thru next saturday and my cable doesn't show it again that far ahead at least. Whats odd is others are saying thier guides show it several times in the next few days. I figured a channel would broadcast a show to all cable networks at the same time. so if for example it was on tuesday at 9 EST, i would see it here the same day at 6 PST. Yet thats not happening.

Yeah, there are guys saying it's on today, tomorrow, etc. But not here till god knows when. Oh well....i get to see the Tbird in all it's glory daily anyways :y2:

I'm glad you at least got to see some of the program. It's well done even if the narrator does screw up the facts from time to time:y2:
Keep your eye on SPEED as I'm sure it will pop up again.
Carl is right about regional airing of shows. Since I'm on the east coast I get the same programming and times as the US east coast, but in a different time zone by one hour.
