Sometimes the pressures of work and just life in general blank out all the good things. This weekend, Farside, Liam and I took a long weekend break down to Mossel Bay. The weather was magnificent - clear skies, ocean as calm as a millpond, light breeze just enough to take the edge off 30C temps. We just chilled on the balcony soaking up the incredible view of the ocean and harbor with the purple Outeniqua mountains etched in perfection in the background, watching the schools of dolphins taking a lazy swim past, the seals clowining around in the rocks below us and a pod of whales teaching their young to breach, flap and tail slap. We just sat there and quietly counted our blessings. How easy it is to forget just how blessed we truly are. Made me sit up and remember to say "my thanks" at the end of my day.

A soul restoring weekend and just another wake up call to acknowledge that we're just small parts of a much bigger picture.

Gromit, that sounds just wonderful. there is something about spending time by the water - be it the ocean, a lake, or a mountain stream - that restores one's soul. For me, if I can do that via motorcycle, it is the best thing this side of heaven. I'm glad you all had a wonderful, refreshing weekend.

Yes indeed, there is something about the sea. I have lived in Nova Scotia all my life right next to the Atlantic Ocean. Most of our bike rides are along the coast which has very winding roads, great sand beaches and rugged scenery.
(some of the scenery on the beaches isn't bad either )
I also have a cottage on a lake that is inhabited by a pair of loons in the summer time as well as a couple of bald eagles.
Winter can often be long and brutal but I couldn't imagine living anywhere else.

Oh Gromit, that sounds like a wonderful weekend. I go to the beach whenever I am feeling down. A walk in the surf, watching the myriad of birds, the salt air, and the rolling waves restores me. The sea has always been part of my life.

It was too short on time to ride the bikes down - 1200km's one-way and back in 3 days, just not do-able for me. But come December, we'll take the bikes down and enjoy the coastline as well as the mountains. That's one of the nicest things about that area - the Outeniqua mountains cradle the coastline, so you can ride the coast and the mountains, then into the semi-desert of the Karoo in a day.
What is it about water that is so calming?
From the sounds of the replies, seems like everyone is in need of some RnR. What I really came away with this weekend, is a lesson in counting my blessings. And a bit of restored sanity.

Maybe I can get Farside to post some pics.

I also decided to take some time and went off to the family house on a game farm.I saw all the animals all with new borns haning around them .I nearly drove straight into a Rhino that looked like a rock and I sha&^%^t myself .

A great weekend and on top of it I was able to get my son from Boarding school for the weekend too :y115:

Here are some of our views from our relaxing weekend (that I can only vaugely remember now )
