I have not visited this site recently and notice there are queries about rear suspension improvements. I have a thread that is in the "Hinckley Triples General Chat" section titled "Thunderbird 900 Rear Suspension- Swap for Kawasaki ZX7?" that details my experiments swapping a Kawasaki rear shock for the HORRIBLE OEM Triumph unit. READ THE THREAD ALL THE WAY TO THE END!!!! Thread details all parts needed and costs plus sources. To recap- I tried using a ZX7 unit that was a no-go. In the end I ended up using a '94 thru '97 ZX9 unit- the one with the hose and the remote nitrogen/oil reservoir. This one has the advantage of compression/rebound adjustability. DO NOT USE THE ZX 9 "R" SHOCK! That's the one with the reservoir as part of the shock body- the one that sticks out at an angle. YOU DON'T WANT THE ZX9 "R" SHOCK! A new aftermarket rear shock can easily cost $800- $1,000 or more- you can do this swap for about $125, have vastly improved performance and ride quality AND HAVE COMPRESSION/REBOUND ADJUSTABILITY!
