Hi, i have taken purchase of a thunderbird 900 1995, so i dont know of the history of any tinkering from previous owner, has been parked up for a number of years, so cleaned the tank and carbs out completely ,changed spark plugs , ignition coils, also replaced the air filters, starts great and ticks over great but when i take it up to 7,000 revs it just dies until i close the throttle and it picks up again, ive checked the valve timing, the ignition timing all ok , carbs have been cleaned intensely 3/4 times , i am at a loss what to check now, could anyone have a similiar problem help or anyone have an idea thanks
 
To me it sounds like it could be main jets being too small (check the size is correct and make sure the carb settings are all back to standard)or blocking (water in fuel ?) or fuel blockage (partial) in the fuel tap or line meaning its starving at higher revs. Try cleaning the fuel tap and new fuel, check for water/rust deposits in the fuel tank.

thanks for that Checked fuel lines , they are ok , fuel tank has been fully cleaned twice

If it was also playing up at low revs, I would suggest looking for air leaks in the manifolds. I have been working on a Kawasaki Z1000 which has been off the road for 8 years, I could not get it to run at low revs without spitting back through the carbs occasionally, after changing jets, cleaning carbs, even changing carbs it turned out to be the manifolds which had somehow stopped sealing at the head even though they have never been removed and are otherwise in perfect condition. A quick way to check for this is to spray aerostart at the manifolds when the engine is idling and see if you get a slight increase in revs which would indicate a leak.
Are the air filters standard? I would try a run with no filters fitted (as long as you are not on dusty roads)
It would be nice to be able to swap out the ECU and see if that is the problem
 
If the coils are original I would suspect them. I had all sorts of problems with my 1995 TB which disappeared when I changed them. I also had to cange the crank sensor as she conked out when she got hot.
