This is an update on the H-D story:
The owner in Japan lost his house and some relatives in the quake and is presently living in temporary housing.
After thinking over the situation he declined to have the bike returned to Japan, instead has donated it to the H-D museum to be preserved as it is. His life is in a bit of a turmoil right now, but he hopes to be able to come to Canada one day soon to thank the recovery team and maybe even visit the H-D museum when the bike is on display.
This is what I thought should have happened all along.
The bike is still in Victoria, British Columbia, but plans are in the works for a display and to have it transported to the H-D museum when the display is ready.

I hope HD will give him a new bike after he gets his life settled down. I can certainly understand and relate to the terrible upheaval he has experienced. I applaud his decision.

I agree.
You can't buy that kind of PR and favourable advertising.
The cost of a Harley fresh off the line is a pittance compared to an advertising campaign.
