This is a Triumph oil-in-frame. The very large oil holding frame tube ran from the headstock, under the gas tank and then down where a gauze filter was fitted on the bottom end. The filter was removed to drain the oil.
I'm 100% certain no oil was in any of the smaller frame tubes where the sidestand lug is attached.
Any welding there should be no problem.
I'm no "expert" and stand to be corrected :giggle:

It’s the lug off the frame. The lug would be tack welded back to the frame and that might not be a good idea. Personally I would look at ways to reinforce the tube frame at that location when a new piece is welded on. It would definitely be a discussion to have with an experienced shop. As I noted earlier, would be nice to see the pictures of where this piece broke off in addition to seeing the lug separated from the kickstand.
Here's a picture of how it all goes together on my old '73 frame. Should be about the same.

I'm afraid I'll have to deduct 2 points (-2) for spelling. It's NUCLEAR!

And as a side note I'd like to point out that a nuclear chain reaction produces a lot of energy and visible light. (Don't believe me? Go stare at the sun for few minutes, you'll see the light from a nuclear chain reaction (just don't stare too long)). Also, and this might be a fine point, but there is a noticable delta between simple metalurgical fatigue failure and a nuclear detonation. My 2 pennies worth are up.
No, no, no . . . it's nukuler. Haven't you noticed how ninety-five percent of people who use that word instead of nuclear don't know (if you ask them) what a nukule is? Hence the ON PURPOSE joke. Gimme my two points back!
