Last evening, while surfing the channels, I came upon an hour long documentary about the formation and evolution of the Great Rift Valley in northeast Africa.
It started with the dawn of time and came through the eons up to the present time. It showed how the great lakes of Africa were formed and changed over the years as ice ages came and went. The evolution of plants and animals was also very interesting and how everything depends on everything else for survival.
The program ended with speculation that as the rift continues to evolve, one day, very far in the future, the great horn of Africa may eventually become an island.
This is television at its best when it informs and educates.
Before I became acquanted with Dave here I didn't really have that much interest in Africa, but now I do.
The chances that most of us here will ever meet in person are slim, but it helps to share and know something about where we live.
Just think about it. If we ever did meet in one place, wouldn't that be a party!!!!!!!!!!!!

5 year plan...... ??

What would it take to get you stateside folk into one place??? :y15:

Imagine............... between us we could solve the worlds problems!:y2:

The Rift Valley is spectacular and I can believe that the Horn of Africa will become and island - any way of speeding up the process??

According to the program, the rift (due to volcanic action) continues to deepen and widen ever so slowly and extend to the sea which will come in, fill up the canyons and turn the "horn" into a massive island from about the end of the Red Sea (following the chain of great lakes) down to around Mozambique.
I don't think any of us will be around when that happens:y2:

I surely could. Hotlanta is only about six hours from me. Heck, I would meed in CA or Washington state. Atlanta is only a couple of hours from south of the mountains and about two and a half hours from the Tail of the Dragon.

I could, but I wouldn't be riding any of my bikes that far!!!

I have made that trip from Atlanta to Youngstown before. It's not a bad ride at all.

What on EARTH would anyone ever want to go to Youngstown for???

We call it Slumstown, O-HI-A.

OH-Hi-A is generally a very nice State with nice towns.....except for Slumstown.

PS: They could also use a turn or two in their roads just to break up the monotony!

My first wife had relatives there; in fact, she was born there. Her parents were living in Akron at the time.

I just get bored to tears riding on Interstate highways...even in a cage!!

I, too, get bored on interstates, especially in a cage. If I get too bored, Monday, I'll hop off and take the back roads up to Greenville/Spartenburg, SC. From there it is mountains all the way to Maggie Valley. I need to make time and you can't make time on those back roads in the mountains. I will get in plenty of mountain back road riding - and I love it. :y2:
