I've been a fan of European racing since the late 60's and back then I also read what I could about the recent past ie the 40's and 50's. It all seems so long ago now. With the help of Google these days we can find gems like these two photos.
On left, Valentino Rossi (born 16 Feb 1979) with 9 world championships to his credit. The only man to be champ in all classes available to him, 125, 250, 500 and MotoGP.
On right, Giacomo Agostini (born 16 June 1942) the most world championships ever @ 15.

On left John Surtees (born 11 Feb 1934) the only person to have won world championships on both two and four wheels, 3 on bike, 1 in F1.
On right Mr Rossi again. He gets to hang out with some great people.
