Today was a wintry 12’c at 8.30am, by midday it had reached 15’c so I decided to go for a ride and find out if my new panniers had the ground clearance that I was hoping for. I headed north up the coast through the small towns for about 16 km and then climbed the mountain and rode into the Royal National Park. From one end to the other the Park is about 30km of winding road, light traffic and a Mecca for motorcycles. At the southern end is a lookout and car park serviced by a well patronized coffee / ice cream van. The ride in and out of the Park was stimulating (as usual) but today highlighted by much debris on the road from last nights high winds, the small branches on the road kept me focused on the job and held me back to riding at about 75%. In short, I didn’t scrape the bags, but as said it was a 75% effort. I wheeled in to the lookout on the way back and almost immediately the man pulled up beside me.

It was smiles all round and chat about the weather so he hadn’t spotted me just before, how’s that for luck! Had a hot coffee, took a couple of photos and then rode back down onto the coast. After a quick stop to pick up some fresh bread (love them saddle bags) it was a short ride home to start putting tools away from the previous days activity in the garage.

He's just waiting for you to do it at 100%.

Looking forward to your report following a 100% run.

Cheers.
If you look at the photo without a bike, you see two small mountain tops shown green, then two more in slight haze, I live between the second green and first in haze.
The village in the foreground is called Stanwell Park. The photo was taken from Stanwell Tops looking south. The road from Stanwell Tops running south is called Lawrence Hargrave Dve named so because Hargrave did his early flying from that lookout. ( http://www.ctie.monash.edu.au/hargrave/hargrave.html )
This was taken from one of those small headlands looking back towards Stanwell Park.

I am amazed how much it looks like the Northern California coast.
Thanks for the pics. I like the look of the bags even better from behind, do they quick release?

Can't comment as I've never been to California, but we both face the same ocean.
Quick release? Well I'd say yes, if you call two spanners an allen key and about 20 minutes quick.

I think the great views is why I would love to ride this coastline more than anywhere else

Well Dave, as I said to Carl a long time ago, if you ever manage to get to Australia, you have a bast to stay at and strike out from at my place. It isn't grand but it's clean and comfortable.

My dream has always been to ride the coastline of Australia and I think it is because of the fact the environment (weather) is so close to what we have here in SA. Maybe one day that lotto ticket will come in BGRIN

I had plans to travel to SA, Australia, and NZ and was saving for those those trips - then came the recession and my forced retirement. Those trips are still on my dream list.
