Sharks have been seen off our coast for years, but yesterday a 500+ pound, 10+foot long, tagged great white was roaming around our harbour.
It seems the tag transmitted a sign which gave it away.
A huge effort has been made in recent years to clean up the harbour and make it fit for swimming, but I think swimming may be on hold for a while BGRIN

We have had some great whites right along the shore in the New Smyrna Beach area. I have zero desire to swim with a great white - or any other shark!

We definitely hear more about the Great White, thanks to the movie "Jaws". Lately, I read that the most common of shark bites, along U.S. coasts, are by another variety of shark, the black-tip shark, which is common to New Smyrna Beach, near Daytona Beach, FL.

You are spot on. You can add nurse sharks to that. I do swim at New Smyrna Beach routinely.
