Kevin keep on practicing, it gets easier. I can "scale and wail" as my Son calls it, but chords are a bugger, especially the basic chords, get my fingers all twisted as well.
Mainly why I gravitated towards bass more than 6 string.
Get him to show you the basic "power" or "Bar" chords, you can play 75% of most Rock/blues songs using those and the chicks dig it
