Sent to me from a fellow "gear head".
In August 1978, 33 years ago, French director Claude Lelouch, adapted a film camera, gyroscopically stabilized at the front of a Ferrari 275 GTB, and invited a friend, a professional driver of Formula 1, to drive the race car, in heart of Paris, at dawn, as fast as possible.
Lelouch did not get permission to stop traffic on any street for this dangerous run. The pilot completed the circuit in 9 minutes, reaching up to 260 kph at times. The film shows how he did it, running red lights, dodging pedestrians and vehicles, entering some streets against oneway traffic. The sun had not come out yet.
It is not known if the pilot was Rene Arnoux or Jean Pierre Jarier. When screened the movie for the first time in public, Leluch Claude was arrested, but never revealed the name of the Formula 1 driver who drove the car and the film was banned, disappearing "underground."
If you have not seen it, take advantage of this occasion, and click on the link below. 9 minutes, to hold your breath. Worth a trip in the heart of Paris, in a Ferrari 275!.
