On April 3rd, 1973, Motorola engineer Marty Cooper placed the first public call from a cellular phone.
That first cell phone call was made to one of Cooper’s rivals, Joel Engel at Bell Labs.

Cooper simply said, “Joel, this is Marty. I’m calling you from a cell phone, a real handheld portable cell phone.”
The call was placed on a Motorola DynaTAC 8000x, the iconic “retro” cell phone. The DynaTAC 8000x weighed in at a whopping 2.5 pounds compared to today’s feather light devices.
As part of the 40th anniversary, Cisco put together an infographic (below) that highlights some of the milestones that got us from Cooper’s first call to today’s Google Glass and beyond.

I made and received a couple of calls.
I sent and received a couple of TXT's one with a photo attached.
I surfed the net and checked new TT posts.
I checked what time it is at home and overseas.
I recorded a video and uploaded it to my PC.
I used it while shopping and ticked off the groceries as I found each one.
I took about 10 photos and loaded them up to my PC.

Wow, I didn't think about how much it has worked it's way into my daily life.

I can't even list all the crap I have done on mine today, heres a sample........
Text with Shannon (she is flying to North Dakota today--in MN. right now)
Text & emailed customers.
Closed a job or two.
Talked with the shop
Scheduled a few jobs
Found an order that got shipped to the wrong location
Checked the weather and traffic (while sitting 40 minutes in gridlock)
And talked to my son.

And that was before lunch. :y2:

Life was easier when I just had a "pager" lol

Used maps and navigation.

ROFLMAO

Its truly amazing how far we have come in such a short time. We make phone calls and order ebay trinkets from around the globe in seconds on a device that is more technologically advanced than the computers used to put men on the moon........at the cost of millions, yet my current droid phone cost $75.00................. amazing
Makes me wonder why technology gets cheaper while gas prices keep rising?????????:y10:
