Well this has been a fun week, two days without water and now the power is out. Apparently one of the sub stations has exploded so most part of the city is out.

It was not that bad with the water being out as I have a tank with a pump that pumps water into the houses mains water supply. So that was just a matter of switch over from the main supply to the tank.

Now with the power I don't have a backup and we were just staring to cook dinner

Well, that doesn't sound like any fun at all

The worst thing about this is the security risk as all the criminals come out. We already seemed to have had an issue a few house down from us. We had two private security vehicles responding to something going on there.

Fortunately my alarm system has a battery backup but that only lasts a few hours. So I have all my security beams active in the garden right now.

It has been 2 hours already that the power has been off and no news on how long this one will be.

Can't get a back up generator?

At one time I was thinking about a backup generator but never did go with it.

Well today our main internet provider was down so most of SA was without any connection and this only came back on at about midday. Then we see that the garbage collection drivers are on strike so we now have piles of garbage bags sitting on our side-walks, normally we would our own bags back inside but the sorters have already down their sweep placing bags into collection points every few houses. So now each household really has no way of knowing what bags are their ones so this will sit like this until next week sometime, possibly even for a full week until the next run on Thursday.
