If Triumph are looking at trying to reduce the heat from the Scrambler exhaust it will be very interesting to see what they come up with and whether the present bikes will be recalled for an upgrade.

How about something like this wrapped around the cat?

Many thanks for your effortsView attachment 46506

Mike,I think if triumph do sort The heat problem out they’ll recall older bikes,in my experience triumph warranty & recalls are excellent in the uk.that heat shield could work well and it’s only £20 so we’ll worth ago.

My bike is also sat in the garage waiting for spring with virtually no miles on it, so this has been an interesting read. I'm glad the coolant idea was resolved as it would have been difficult for me to understand how that might have worked. lol.

If Triumph had offered a Zard style lower exhaust I might have gone that route. Some folk say that it would no longer be a Scrambler but I prefer function over form and as I won't be off-roading on mine the loss of clearance and vulnerability of the pies wouldn't be an issue for me. I have a CRF for gnarly rides.

If Triumph are working on a solution, I'd put money on it being an improved heat shield but time will tell.

I had a look on the tec website to see what they had for the scrambler 1200 and to my surprise exhaust wrap at £4.99 was there, one of the reviews said they had wrapped there catalytic converter and it worked really well at reducing heat.

I have to admit that a twenty dollar titanium wrap. Is my DIY first choice to fix it. If it doesn’t work or last very long. No worries...

Sounds like a plan. Good spot

I'm approaching 5000 miles on my 1200XC and have never been bothered by heat from the Cat. I can feel it when sitting at a light, but even in extremely hot weather it has never been so much of a problem that I felt compelled to do anything about it. Perhaps trhis is because I don't spend a lot of time sitting in traffic where I live and ride. Maybe if I spent an hour in stop and go traffic on a 100 degree day I would feel differently. But for me, I see a lot of other things I want to put my money into (new tires soon, tec tail tidy once they have them in USA, rear rack, new seat (if anyone would release a good one), etc.

The same here as to the riding without lots of stop time. Maybe a Zard exhaust, Tec tail tidy, smaller turn signals . I still am waiting on the weather and the DMV to open back up so I can get a TIP. No miles on the clock!

Hi all. I ride the XC in Australia and I'm a short arse. The temperature was extreme (40C +) over Summer and my leg when extended is up against the pipes. I have no problems with the heat other than stopping at traffic lights and choosing appropriate luggage. The heat is a problem for my pillion wife who after 30 minutes had noticeable red heat marks on her thighs. I would also add that the standard pipes sound great. Since I generally ride solo I've invested in a rack and screen and will think about a decat after the warranty runs out.

From what I’ve read about the decat it’s not forced to make any difference to the heat problem, have you thought about some heat wrap we’re the heats at its worst.

With the lockdowns I've had plenty of time to research and I've put in an order for slashed shotgun pipes from SP Engineering UK. I have also bought exhaust wrap which I'm hoping will be obscured by the original heat shield. I must confess that I didn't purchase the pipes with my wife's comfort as the sole reason. Movement restrictions are gradually being lifted and it is ok to ride a motorbike without it being essential travel. So I hit the country roads for an overdue fang. The stock exhaust do sound great.

I managed a 40mile breaking trip this week, 47 on the clock. No cycle endorsement as of yet. My dictator Governor Whitmer, MI. Has extended the party until June. So no DNV , this is nuts!

Hey Shaun are you allowed to ride in the UK? I know Australia is in a different boat to you with covid 19 numbers however, I'm sort of pleased that most people took on the self isolation seriously including bike rides. All or nothing I guess to beat this virus but it did annoy me that pushbike riders got out and about calling it exercise.

wossa, you can ride your bike if you use it to go to work or get food, I would say it’s mostly frowned upon and most bikers aren’t using there bikes, the worry is that the National health service has enough to do never mind putting bikers back together, they say we’re past the peak so hopefully we can ride soon.keep safe.

I could see using heat deflecting tape as an inexpensive experiment on the Cat area. After a short ride in cool weather, I could feel the heat.

Heat wrap is going to cut down on the heat a lot, and will also make your cat heat up faster and stay up to temp better which will make it function better. The only reasons I haven't wrapped mine with spare wrap I have sitting in my garage are that the heat has never been a real issues for me, wrapping it without pulling the cat off is going to be a PITA and I don't have a spare crush gasket for the header, I'm not sure if the factory heat shield will go back on once the pipe wrap is on it, and in my experience heat wrap promotes corrosion.

Hi All

I'm considering getting a set of after market exhaust headers which have no cat, not after any power gain but would like less heat by my right leg.

Talking to my local dealer today they said that their could be 2 issues

1 The quality of the component may not be as good as Triumph
2 Although the after market people say that the ECU will automatically compensate for the new pipe, the bike may run a little rough and be a bit rich in some areas

Anyone tried one of these pipes and could comment on the above and how much cooler the pipe is? I am leaning towards the Weslake one as there is no wield on the bend (and they're cheaper! with an original purchaser lifetime warranty))

Many thanks

Mike
Where did you find the Weslake pipe? I have been looking and can't find it anywhere.. I also really like that it doesn't have that big weld in the bend..

They were on this site:-

Unfortunately, after about a month the ad was taken off. I've kept an eye on the site but it has not reappeared. Don't know why but I have my theories.

A pity because they were the most aesthetically pleasing

Mike
