I am waiting for my 1200 to be delivered next week.. I will ride it for a while first, but before spring I will likely remove the cat and wrap everything under the heat shields. It gets really HOT here in the summer and stoplights can be truly miserable.. Probably just go Zard for both pieces.. header and silencer..

I've considered wrapping the headers under the heat shields but are you just transferring the heat somewhere else, probably the silencers

i put the free spirits decat on my 19 street scram + its great!! minimal sound increase + a bit more performance. a 1200 will prolly be a bit warmer than my 900 but it will help a lot + is an EZE DIY as there are vids on the install. you want stainless steel as most are as it keeps more heat in the pipe. full systems can work as well but louder + costlier + if the very helpful multi layer OE heat shields are not used it will not be as effective. pipe wraps help but can shorten pipe life!!

hhmm... So would there be any issue with just cutting a window into the cat, gutting it, and then welding it back shut? done! No worries about ugly welds on the exposed bend?

Just a thought..

Has been done

Mike
Thanks, I watched a pile of the de-cat videos and missed that one.. ALL the rest seem to be just about installing a replacement pipe.. One with a big, ugly weld right across the bend.. The zard is not so bad.. It's weld is more toward the cylinder..
Annoying that they don't tell you how to put in the deflector tho (will research a bit more). I'm in the USA and its absolutely not worth sending it back and forth across the pond.. lol..

Just come across this.

The weld is still on the bend but not as pronounced

I did the de-cat and ceramic coating on the header at the same time. So I can't say for sure whether the ceramic helped or not, but the end result of both was great. I have no issues with the head anymore. And combined with the arrow exhaust, the sound is very pleasant as well.

Hi All

I'm considering getting a set of after market exhaust headers which have no cat, not after any power gain but would like less heat by my right leg.

Talking to my local dealer today they said that their could be 2 issues

1 The quality of the component may not be as good as Triumph
2 Although the after market people say that the ECU will automatically compensate for the new pipe, the bike may run a little rough and be a bit rich in some areas

Anyone tried one of these pipes and could comment on the above and how much cooler the pipe is? I am leaning towards the Weslake one as there is no wield on the bend (and they're cheaper! with an original purchaser lifetime warranty))

Many thanks

Mike
I put the Zard de-cat pipe on my XE. It runs just fine. I would say there is considerably less heat but I would need a million bucks and a science lab to prove it. There is just a bit more exhaust noise but it isn't any big difference. I'm happy with it. Walt

I also did the Zard de-cat and its great. The exhaust note with Zard and the standard silencers is perfect for me. Fitting was easy and the quality superb. Well worth the £315 I paid.

Do you think you're getting less heat from the cat?

Cheers

Mike

Hi Mike, yes, less heat for sure. I had a 900 street scrambler before the XE and had Tech de-cat the original cat box and weld back up. That worked perfectly well also but decided this time to keep the original from the XE which will be gathering dust I know but good to have the option if I ever sell.
