Hi Gents,

I'd like to upgrade the rear supension on my (standard) Thruxton, can anybody recommend a decent replacement please.

Ohlins, Nitron are excellent but far more than I wish to pay, Hagon and YSS are unknown quantities to me, but I'm happy to take advice including shocks from other bikes.

Failing this, is there a Triumph breaker?

Only real input I can give here is - I got them both front and rear and Ohlins are TOTALLY worth it.

Thanks very much for your imput. I have Ohlins on my kawasaki so I'm aware of the quality upgrade, but it's a second bike which (sadly) doesn't get ridden often enough, so buying Ohlins new isn't economically sensible. BTW they are beautiful

Somebody did suggest a breaker, does anybody know of a decent one?

I had Hagon Nitro's on the rear of my 05 Rocket III and they were excellent units. Easy adjustability and great performance upgrade. You might watch eBay for some used Ohlins from a wrecked TTR.

That may be however isn't Hagon a UK based firm? I was suggesting the shocks, not the seller thereof. I would hope you are be able to locate a dealer in the UK for a UK made product.

Hi,
Hagon is about 100 miles away from me so not too far, although their website is awful (IMHO).

My neighbour used to be sponsored by them when he was a speedway rider back in the 70's.

Hagon are a long established company started by British speedway legend Alf Hagon. In my opinion, they tend to specialise in replacement rather than upgrade shocks, (they were based on the old Girling shocks) but the website might offer something different.

DTR could you be a bit more specific as to what you are trying to fit shocks to? Is it a 1200 standard, 900 standard? Additionally if you're going to upgrade the back you ought to upgrade the front to match.
Otherwise it's only half right. When I upgraded the suspension on my T-120 it was better shocks in back and progressive springs and adjusters in front. When I did it to my Bobber it was Ohlin's in back and full Matris emulators in the front. The ride, comfort and handling of both bikes was transformed. With my Thruxton R I only needed to change the seals, bushings, and stanchions in the front. The rear shocks were fine.

I will use a suspension specialist in Suffolk England called MCT, very established and works wonder's on ZZR1400's for the front end and upgrade the rear but as previously stated I won't fit Ohlins due to the prohibitive cost here in the UK and the low mileage the bike covers

I used Progressive springs and rear shocks on my 2012 as an upgrade with satisfactory result. Not sure about Progressive availability in Europe, but I’m sure they have a pair for your application. They are generally around the same price as Icon or Hagon. I’ve used Hagon’s on Commando’s and my T140, certainly an upgrade from the OEM stuff that had been sitting on those bikes for 40years
