I took the header pipes off my 2001 Bonneville to have them polished. On refitting I cannot get the brackets on the rear of the header pipes (by the rider's foot rests) to line up with the threaded holes to receive the fixing bolts. The pipe brackets are about 5mm to low. I have fitted many exhausts to motorcycles before and I have never encountered a problem refitting the original pipes. I did all the obvious things- fitted everything without tightening anything. Tried a complete 'dry run' using the old exhaust gaskets and tightening everything up. Checked for fouling of the cross over pipe... It has me beat. The only thing that occurs to me is that the pipes are stainless steel, does that some how make a difference? Has anyone else encountered this problem?
