This afternoon I was out in my garage polishing the snaky exhaust system on my Honda 1100. Springsteen was "Dancing in the Dark" on the oldies radio station and the stainless steel pipes began to gleam.
I hadn't done this for a couple of years and it needed doing so they would sparkle like the rest of the bike. The space is confined and the pipes are close together so It's a bit of a chore.

My garage is set back from the sidewalk and with the doors open I have a good view of the street. I keep the radio volume just high enough to hear, so unless they make a point to look down the driveway, most people don't even notice.
I like to work with the doors open, but also don't want to attract attention to the valuable machines in there by making a lot of noise.

I live close to a junior high school (grades 7-9) and afternoon classes were just getting out. I couldn't help notice and hear small groups of lads laughing and having fun as they passed by on the way home.
Junior high! Oh so long ago! We had just moved to the city from a very rural area with a one-room school. That September I went into grade 7 at a city high school which had a gym more than twice the size of the one-room school I had just left. It was a bit of a culture shock, but I soon adapted and made lots of new friends.
As I worked away at the pipes and heard the lads passing by, I began to think, "Here I am, a geezer over 80 and polishing a motorcycle in anticipation of another summer on two wheels. I wonder what those lads will be doing for fun when they get to be my age. Will there even be motorcycles? I wonder what they will look like and I wonder what people my age will be doing for fun."
If they will be doing anything like what I've been doing for the past 27 years they will be having the time of their lives. :y146:

Great job on those pipes, Rocky.
I often wonder some of those same thoughts. What will kids of today do for entertainment down the road, and how will bikes differ from today?

The pipes really did come out great.

I often sit and think how I would like to see the world in a 100 years time. Considering the jumps in technology over these last 100 I can only think what they might be doing then.

The leaps and bounds of technology really boggles the mind it's advancing so fast.

I don't have a bike lift so cleaning those pipes is a hands and knees job on the concrete floor. I wear knee pads, but it's still not so easy on the knees and back of the old guy BGRIN
Combine that with how close they fit and it's no wonder they get ignored.
I slathered each one in Autosol and used strips of cloth in a seesaw action wrapped around each one and they soon came out looking like new. Heat will eventually tint the stainless to a champagne sort of colour which is normal.
I must say, those snaky pipes do have an artistic look to them.
