Am I allowed to have 'brag' spot???

Liam, our 13 year old, made his public debut at school assembly the other morning, playing "Sweet Home Alabama". Liam on lead, his best mate "Dimitri" on drums and "Brogan" on rhythm. I had no idea how good this kid was until I heard him 'perform'. Drummer was excellent too. Boys got a standing ovation from parents and kids alike! :y72: :y72: :y72:

The school has a great music faculty and encourages all kinds of music. Thank heavens Liam's guitar teacher is into rock and r&b! Now Liam's learning "Proud Mary" and "Light My Fire". Imagine if he was into ABBA :hu: I'd have to leave home!!! Kid now wants leathers "to go with the rock image Mom!!! Duh!"

You have a reason to brag, not enough good publicity about kids, and a great choice of music. Proud Mary by Tina Turner still is top of my list . :y18:

I think Carl would say..........."It aint braggin' if ya done it!"
[/quote]

Absolutely!!

Thanks everyone. I'll print this out and show Liam. I don't hear him practising because he has headphones that plug into the amp. I only hear him on the acoustic when he's practising for an exam. This performance really blew my socks off! And it's such a cool song they played. Love that song. :ya2:

Gromit.... that is fantastic. Musical talent is a gift that needs to be encouraged and nurtured.......

Remember the quote......... "The guitar is all very well, but you'll never make a living at it".

John Lennon's Aunt if I am not mistaken.

Are you going to post the vid'?

Silli - I could kick myself. I went to the assembly to support my boy and left the camera at home! I honestly didn't think it would very good - but here I am now regretting I doubted my boy. Another parent did vid the performance so when schools back, I'm going to try and get a copy from him.
He's trying to make a deal with me - he'll learn "Paint It Black" and if he cracks it, I must buy him a Fender Stratocaster(?).
So any suggestions of really difficult lead guitar pieces for me to counter the deal with would be appreciated. He also tinkers on the keyboard - don't know if he'll pursue that but I'd like him to really explore his talent and we do encourage it. He listens to all kinds of music; classical, hard rock, jazz, latin - anything that grabs his fancy but he's not into rave music.............yet!

To a good lead guitarist, there is no such animal as a difficult piece. Seriously, rather buy him the strat. It wont cost you an arm or a leg, as they are made in Mexico these days, and quite affordable.

It will give him the impetus to continue to excel........

One of my favorite musos wrote a song explaining that although he lost his licence for doing 185 in a Masarati, life has been good to him so far.

Go Liam

'Stairway to heaven' would be a good start............
Or any of the old Shadows stuff,Hank Marvin's a hard act to follow.

AAAggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh Noooooooooooo.

Too cheesy.

Remember Waynes World, in the music shop, the sign that said "No Stairway To Heaven"
:ya2:

Some good guitarists, imo

Santana
Robin Trower
Mauritz Lotz (SA Muso.)
Greg and Dwayne (RIP) Allman
Scott Gorham (Thin Lizzie)
Jeff Beck
Alvin Lee

I implore you. no Stairway to Heaven or Smoke On The Water

I'd smash his guitar if he ever played Stairway to Heaven!! ;-)

What? He's not playing Jeremy's 'Ag pleeze Daddy"?

You've allowed him to be corrupted by the likes of a Jimi Hendrix and Rolling Stones?

What kind of Mom are you???? LOL!!

No Stairway to Heaven either!! ;-) Yeah what kind of mom am I - he's got more branded Triumph kit than I have, rides (pillion) on motorbikes!! Plays rock and into heavy metal (he just bought a Metallica cd), goes to school on a Tiger every now and again and headbangs with his mom! Any moment the 'mommy police' are gonna get me. I just hope I'm giving him a happy childhood so when he turns out to be a bum, he can't blame me! :-)

Okay,so my taste in music's a bit different.
When he can do an acceptable version of Joe Satriani's 'Always with me,always with you' Bring him by the shop
I'll supply the Stratocaster.
If he prefers something a bit more mellow,John Williams "Cavatina" will do,but for that he'll need an Ovation.
