Gary, did you try to take a ride a couple of days ago? I know that you were considering doing it.

I will ride her to work tomorrow.

Al ordered the gasket set and seals a week ago. He had to order through a Triumph dealer. Al uses the Tallahassee dealership; the local dealership, well, let's say they are not real good with Triumphs. If Triumph North America in Atlanta has the parts, Al will get them in about two weeks. They have to go to Tallahassee first. If they have to come from across the pond - who knows how long that will take. Since it is rare that the new Triumph engines are torn down this far, Triumph NA may not have the gasket set in stock. Once he gets the gaskets and seals, it will take him two days to put the engine together, mount it back in the bike and road test it.

You know, one would think that even if they don't have much trouble with the twins they would still keep a stock of gaskets somewhat locally, just in case someone does have a problem. But I guess that would require common sense, and sense sure as hell aint common these days.
Here's hoping for a quick turn around Carl!

The Triumph dealer here in Tallahassee doesn't stock much.
I've gotten oil filters and oil there, everything else has had to be ordered. Regular items you think they would stock like chain and sprocket sets, gaskets, etc.
They used to fill orders in a couple of days, lately, however, its been 10 days to 2 weeks

The problem is the US tax code. Companies have to pay tax on inventory plus they have money tied up in inventory. Thus they tend to stock only those items that turn over quickly. The reason Al uses Tallahassee and Pensacola is that both dealerships have mechanics that know their way around a Triumph - something that is lacking a far too many dealerships.

Thanks, Avion. We can't wait!

Sorry, I don't buy that. Delaware has no inventory tax, and my dealer stocks nothing but oil filters and Triumph branded clothing in a few "popular" sizes. Parts and accesories for old Triumphs are but days away from any of the places I deal with.
Why can they stock the things we need for our "out of production bikes", but the people that sell the new bikes can't carry things other than consumables? Because they aren't interested in selling parts, they want to sell you new bikes. It's our disposable society at its worst!

It is not the states' taxes; it is the IRS. Congress changed the tax cosde nearly 40 years ago and that changed the inventories considerably even in the auto dealerships' world.

Thats great, and i love the pics of Mae Lyne hugging and seeing her poor bike....thats sweet. But OMG, 4 bills for a gasket set !!! Man o man, does triumph ever ream us when it comes to parts. Even thier accessories aren't that bad, but the parts or stupid expensive. Guess thats probably where they make most of thier money. Anyways, good to hear ML will be back on her baby soon.

Thank you Dale. I told Carl that that was a private moment between me and my bike and spread it all over the world! LOL I am soooo ready to ride again. I was in shock over the price of that gasket set.

Well, i was surprised to hear it because i had been under the impression you had sorta given up on riding. Can't recall exactly why, but something Carl said a while bad gave me that impression. In any case, have fun and ride safe. :y115:

Dale, because of a back injury I suffered in an automobile accident, I can no longer safely ride on two wheels. My right leg gives out without warning every now and then. If I were on a bike stopped at a traffic light with my right leg down and it gave out, I would fall with the bike on top of me. That was why I went for a hack rig. I can safely ride it without fear of my leg giving out. It is much more comfortable for me physically to ride as a rider than as a passenger. I guess it has to do with the postion and the ability move around a little. I can ride much longer solo than I can as a pillion.

And she has done just that. She can get six or so bags of groceries in it. When it was up and running, she did most of her errands and shopping with it.

And a good few six packs of good beer..

Ride Safe
